I got an email from Squadron yesterday advertising the 1/35 Dora rail gun. It ships at over 50lbs, is over 7 feet long and has north of 3000 pieces. This thing is huge. They had a "what's in the box" video in the link. I'll see if I can link it here.
First off, I would absolutely build this. I figure it would take a good year or two of steady work to complete, but if you were to take it to ANY show, it would garner ALOT of attention. Yes, it is pricey, but not for its size compared to good 1/35 armor. And yes, it will take up a considerable amount of space once complete, but what an epic build it would be.
Anyone else brave enough for this monster? Come on, it's only $850...

I got that email too and gotta say.....that is indeed massive. If I had the skills to build that thing I'd still have no where to put it. I have to agree that it's a very impressive model.

I remember I did a 1/72 scale sub not my scale but by the time i got from one end a the boat to the other my weatering and painting I suppose technique had changed ,I think with this you would realy have to commit to get stuck in , But ya great bit a kit. Buddho This is nuts! Can you imagine the size of that 1/35 scale behemoth in your living room? 🤓 I remember discusing with my friend and fellow modeler an enginer about the 1/35 WWII German 12.8cm FlaK 40 Zwilling ...and building the flak tower as well he reckoned we were going to build an other bathroom sized room in the sitting room,,,,,,.

Pretty cool concept, but I’m not a fan of the PVC material most of the large parts are made of. Small details are molded on too. A scratch builders paradise if they had the time/patience to scrape and rebuild the details.

Holy mother of huge! That's just plain nuts. It won't be me but, someone here has got to sacrifice several square feet of their abode and build this.

No problem with space, just put the car in the driveway or on the street, and then you can park it in the garage !!!

A friend bought that kit when it first came out. He says he had to open the box and carry the kit’s contents to his car piecemeal. The owner of the hobby shop where he purchased the kit corroborated the story. It still sits in his house, unbuilt, taking up precious floor space. He now wonders why he bought it in the first place! No place to store the box, no place to store the kit if it got built.
Actually, his original plan was to build it in his office and put it up on a shelf above his work station, but the new management nixed anything above desk level for fire safety reasons or some other thing.
If anyone is visiting Hawaii and is interested in relieving my friend of this gargantuan kit, let me know. We’ll gladly drop it off at your hotel! After that, it will be your responsibility getting it back home!

I have the 1/72 Dora in my stash. I have seen the 1/35 in person and it’s huge.
The 1/72 is going to be my retirement build.

MakoModelbau makes a turned aluminum barrel for 135,00 Euros. This was scratch build around 2015 by Dave Tootill of plastic, cast wheels and a turned wooden barrel I believe he was a teenager when he started it. Last photo is him with it out of the garage. I have seen one of those 1/35th scale monsters built; a member of our Orange County IPMS club built one some years ago when Hobby Boss or Trumpeter came out with it first. The box was so huge he had to strap it in the passenger seat of his MG midget car. He even joked that he was able to take the carpool lane home with it! LOL! He did order a turned metal barrel for it too; it was held up in Customs while the FBI came to his house to ask why he needed a barrel like that. They let it past when they saw his mostly assembled Dora. He ended up not using it because there is no amount of counterweight that would counterbalance a metal barrel like that; he would have had to glue it into position. He did take it to all the local shows and the IPMS Nationals and won everywhere. He now keeps it parked in his garage in a special made showcase to protect it from the elements.
On another Forums, there is a guy who has been building one of these and doing Extensive scratch building of details. I believe he recently finished and has been building a dio-type base to display it on.
I built one of the 1/72 scale Hobby Boss Doras myself, completing it in 2013. It took me a year and nine months to complete and took almost 20 Model Master bottles of paint to cover (I used four colors: flat black, panzer dark grey, gunship grey, and neutral grey) Out of all the models I've built in my time, it was the first ever kit that scared the holy crap out of me the whole time I was working on it! I did garner a number of awards for it too. Carlos will tell you about the "baby coffin" I use to transport her. She's 'sleeping' in it now since I have no place to display it.
Once I start finding and restoring as many of my missing pics as I can, I'll post pics of it.

Thank you Carlos! I'm trying to go through all the places where I posted my lost pics and try to recover them. I did find this one from the Las Vegas show showing Annie next to Dora. You'll have to zoom in, as Annioe is tiny in this shot and difficult to see. That's the shot of the entire armor collection (all 825) shown at Las Vegas two years ago.

Just for fun, I found a couple other pics of Annie sitting next to Dora. There's also some additional shots of Dora, some of which are detail shots. too. [/url] [/div] These are the detail shots:

Thank you Carlos! I also enjoy looking at these pics since I can't look at her in person. I'm glad you got to see Annie and Dora together; someone had suggested while I was building Annie that I should get a comparison pic so when I finally finished Annie I brought them both back to our Hobby Day hall to take these pics.

Well in 1/72 scale, you might. My Dora took me only a year and nine months; although I should probably say more accurately; about a year and six months. At one time I found myself rushing her which was a recipe for unrecoverable disaster. So she got packed away for three months until the urge to rush passed.
