The Vanguard kit originally from Hawk and re released a few years ago by R2.
It's not very accurate to the real Vanguard, but as I said it's the only satellite kit I have.

Cool project. I've been tempted to get the Hasegawa Voyager kit and eduard does a really nice PE set.

the main body decal is on. Hoping it will settle down. I keep hitting it with micro sol. The problem is its one large decal, I should have cut it into individual sections. This is the original Vanguard that exploded on launch.

That is ine fine looking satellite! You can try popping the air bubbles on the decal with a pin, that might help them settle down.

That photo was right after I put it on.
It's looking better now, I used a new xacto to cut around the 2 bumps.

It's acceptable now. It will be viewed through the clear domes of the top and bottom. Dullcoat tomorrow then construction.

Interesting. Cool to see and learn about something i’d never heard of. That big decal on the clear surface looks like it was a pita!

A little progress. A Life gets in the way of building sometimes.. The core is done. It looks easy, but getting the 4 bent rods aligned with the top and bottom disk was interesting. The 4 sensors are attached to the clear top and bottom, as are the 2 large sensors on the gold body. The clear bottom is glued on also. I was planning on adding some basic wiring, but after a dry fit I'm not sure how much will be seen. It's a very '50s kit. Basic, kind of inaccurate, and has some fit issues.

I can only imagine the work it took to get the four support braces lined up to get that ring to sit level. For being a basic kit like you mentioned, you’re doing a great job with it.

Thanks! She is Lyrella, She will be either a StarFleet cadet or ensign if and when I finish her. She has been kind of high maintenance, and seems not to want to be finished.

No photo's but I started on the Vanguard again. The seam between the upper and lower gold body sections was very bad. I've started sanding it. I'll have to mask and reprime and repaint the gold.
Like a '50s kit the fit is bad.
