Alfa Romeo 155V6TI DTM

Since I'm new here, do I start a build thread like this?


With this GB lasting 3 years, I ought to be able to finish this.   It's a 1/12th Model Factory Hiro multi-media kit that I got for Christmas 2020. I bought it straight from MFH because it then comes with a complimentary origami.

I don't generally create a build thread when doing a GB, part of the fun is posting all the build progress in the GB thread for everyone to see, comment on. Also ask for help. At least in my case haha. If I were to do a GB then I would be posting the same stuff twice. EDIT: Apparently I dont read good and failed to notice that posted in our group build it says to create a build thread. Sorry Paul!

This is going to be very fun to follow as big as this kit is. Plenty of opportunities for detailing I'm sure. I've never seen a GB go for three years but these big builds like this would tend to take alot of time alright. Looking forward to this Paul.

Is the driver Danish because I am seeing Denmark flag? I am a big fan of Denmark myself and I have been there 3 times for last 15 years. You will definitely have my attention... good luck!

The decals are for the 93 DTM champ Nicola Larini, who is Italian.

Ah, you've been tricked by the race car livery. What you're seeing is the left side of the Alfa Romeo branding. That is actually the cross of Milan, which doesn't work too well on a red vehicle as it is actually the opposite of the Danish flag. So they put their entire logo in white on the car and this tricks you into seeing the Danish flag.



Here is the actual logo in color.

Gotcha! That's why I was tricked... I guess those Italians were trying so hard to be so cool like Danish folks!

Now that the GB is officially started, I can dive into this kit.  I got the resin pieces cleaned up and started to do some test fitting.  








The engine block was fitted up and ready to be painted

I’ve honestly been watching for this since the ball dropped. lol. I know you were itching to get into it. That body looks sweet and I can’t wait to watch this come together. Nice quick start on the engine too.

I've been studying the instructions and playing with parts for the last 2 months.  Even though I want to finish the BT45, I'm afraid it's going to be on the back burner.

Ha!! I did wonder where the BT45 was going to stack up once you started on the Alfa. I’ll just enjoy watching you build both whenever you get to them.

A former co-worker had a road going version of the Alpha 155, sadly lost when a guy rear-ended him at freeway speed.     Amazingly, he walked away unharmed.  He really loved that car, despite it having so many mechanical problems!

It will be awesome seeing a 1/12 kit of this car being built, by MFH no less!

I don't know why, but I usually jump on the wheels and tires near the start of a build.




I also got a start on fitting up the roll cage.

Very cool, as always! MFH really needs to utilize you as marketing haha. You are making it really hard not to purchase something from them even though it is WAY WAAAAAY out of my budget for one of their kits.

It should be out of my budget.  But since I got hooked on them, I've been selling off my styrene collection to afford them.  I'm hoping their next couple of releases don't interest me.

I do have some items that I need to get rid of in the garage... It may be time for a garage sale to help fund one of these!

He already ruined me and sold me one of his and then I had to immediately buy another. 🤦🏻‍♂️😂 It’s a slippery slope. They’re incredibly nice even in the smaller 1/20 scale. I can’t wait to get into one.

Beautiful progress too Paul. The cage is looking great as are the wheels and tires.

I got the chassis sprayed with Tamiya AS-12 Bare Metal Silver.  Then I slowly added bars to the roll cage with J-B Quick Weld.  Once completed, I filed down the joints and painted the cage MM Metalizer steel.

Yes they are.   But the rubber boots very difficult to drill out.  They are too soft so a drill just twists them.  I'm still experimenting with a way to do it.

Good looking Alfa, but I guess that is kind of an oxymoron. Not really known for ugly cars after all.

I know the reputation of MFH kits, but don't remember ever seeing anyone do a build thread on one.

Thanks Aaron.  rondriaan has been building a MFH motorcycle here.  But I think I might be the first one building MFH cars.
