started to work on the flaps I cut out one side here but i could see a lot would depend on the thickness of the gun bays so abandoned the flaps and cut the gun bay out I wasn't going to fit gun bays to this because its not easy but i noticed the supplied parts only cover one side so i thought i would give it a go The other worry was once you assemble the lower wing to the fuselarge there is now a "main spar" that sets the dihedral of the wing, running where the engine bulkhead site
However this just misses the bulk head. You really cant test fit to often with these old resin upgrades as this shows, that bulkhead is not sitting right...

I couldn't get over that shot of the 1/24 and 1/48 engines you posted on the previous page Paddy. Just outstanding. You're right about the plan out stages of any build that gets detailed out as you are doing with this build here. One wrong move or a step left out can result in missing a key element of the build. I tend to open up a lot of my builds as you are doing here and it ALWAYS pays to stop and think before moving on as well as to test fit, test fit, test fit and some MORE test fitting before final assemblies are made. It can be a bit frustrating to build up such a nice engine module only to find out afterwards that it doesn't fit into the fuselage at all. This, good sir.....is coming along splendidly btw.

Right , where was i ? Doing a little bit of general OTB assembly to get the wings on and tidy up some seams. Cutting away the flaps made the join at the wing root warp so i need to fill and tidy there, a small seam to smooth over aft of the cockpit on the top as
You can see here i have made a bit of a mess with the trailing edge at the wing root so some work required..

The cockpit already looks nice and tidy down in its home. And I know you'll take care of your wing root with no issues. Starting to resemble an airplane now. Looking forward to the next update

You spoke too soon Steve I think i am going to shelve this. I have run into real problems with the flaps. I don't even know why i am fitting flaps as Spits only ever dropped flaps in flight and i am building this on its wheels. I have fitted lots of flap kits before without any major problems but these have taken me to the edge and back It might be because they are curved to suit the elliptical wing so you cant fold the curve but really i have followed the instructions blindly and as you can see the flap is much wider than the section you have to cut out. You cant enlarge the section you removed as the air filter is in the way. You cant slide the flap between the upper and lower wing because the flap is not flat once you fold the ribs up The problem is the more you cut the thing up the less point in carrying on because the whole thing looses it credibility and integrity as it becomes a mish mash....... I need to be happy with what i am doing and I'm not TBH.

Excellent update paddy! I'm very sure you'll be negotiating that wing issue in good fashion. This thing is turning into a real beauty! Edited: You posted at the same time as I did. In regards to dropping the flaps while it's on its wheels, you could depict this as having some maintenance/ repairs done while on the ground. That.......would validate the flaps being dropped while on the ground. Just an idea for you if you haven't thought of it already.

Its too far off from where i want it to be Sorry folks , this just became a load of spare parts. I don't like scrapping a build but I suppose the reason I do this on line is so others might not fall into the holes I did. No real problem with Eduard, their later Wildcat was superb but this conversion is 14 years older and not a patch on their newer models. Maybe it was just beyond my capabilities...oh hang on, it was definitely beyond my capabilities and that's not Eduards problem. I do have a set of overtrees which i might assemble up and fit just the engine too but right now I need a complete change of subject... Sorry to leave you all hanging on this one Paddy

I hear what you're saying and have been there before myself paddy. You're not leaving anyone hanging on this build as it just happens that way sometime. You would definitely have me as an audience if you were to stick that engine into a future build up though.

Using that pic as my reference, I’m going to count the wires to make sure they’re all there on your engine! Just kidding. She’s looking great.

It's a WRECK! No, I'm not being nasty, we don't (shouldn't) do that around here... On touchdown, the gear collapses (didn't lock down for some reason) and the machine drops onto it's belly at speed. The flaps are deployed so they get torn off, or bits are just trailing from the trailing edge. Other bits/panels get removed soon after as the ground crew get ready to recover it. One has started to remove the remaining ammo, for safeties sake. Others are looking at the motor, which may end up as a Meteor powering a tank... Nobody said you have to model the Spit in working order, and the quality modelling you've produced so far deserves better than the bits box. Rest it for a while by all means, but don't give up on it just yet... Cheers, M

Ha ha yes its a good idea and I may do that with the left over pieces ........... BUTAs I couldn't sleep last night I broke out the over trees I had shown here You can see i have already cut the nose section off to take the engine and i have now salvaged the cock[pit from the old model and fitted it to this stage Ok so now we have no guns or flaps but it should still make up to a good model and I don't walk away with too much egg on my face Fortunately these over trees are dead cheap so although this will be 2 kits its not "break the bank" kind of cash Onwards and upwards chaps.....

Do what you can with it... the tale to be told will pop into your head at some point and then you can put it into that setting.

Next stage to try and re connect with this was to add some paint The underside got a coat of MRP Medium sea Grey, the top got MRP Ocean Grey, Both std RAF colours. Blu tak was added to give feathered camo lines and then the grey was masked and MRP Dark Green was added
Camo pattern is not strictly correct here as a lot of it will be covered by D-Day stripes. ..... like this This now looks a bit better :-)
