Welcome aboard. Is that a AA altered in your pic? Close sir, but from that little picture there is almost no way to identify it correctly. It is a '32 Austin Bantam roadster A/A. It was originally built for Roy Rastetter from Hale Center, Texas. He raced it for years, and then decided to build an A/D. I worked on his crew for a couple of years, and when he decided to build the A/D, I bought the roadster from him. He helped me get it set up, and allowed me to keep his name on the car as advertising. The chassis was built at Don Hardy's shop in Floydada, Texas. The engine was a 484 cu.in. Stage II Chrysler Hemi with Hilborn injection. I raced the car for another four years and then sold it to a gentleman in Houston. The pictures of the roadster were taken by my best friend, John Pattison, in Albuquerque. I took the picture of Roy's dragster in the pits at Amarillo Dragway. The '32 Austin Bantam roadster Roy's Hemi powered A/D

Both of these cars just scream "bad a$$" and are mighty fine examples of racing back in the day. I've gotta ask......What kind of times and trap speeds did these cars run?

Roy Rastetter was one of the nicest people I ever met on the drag strips back in the '60s' and '70s' ... for Roy and his wife Mary Jo, drag racing was a passion and not a business ... when I first got the car from him I tried running a small block Chevrolet in it and I just couldn't get it to hook up and run well, Roy explained that the chassis was tuned for the weight of a Hemi up front, and much chassis modification was needed to tune it for the weight and balance of the little Chevrolet ... so I dug deep into my pockets and bought a crate Hemi engine from Fenner Tubbs Chrysler Plymouth in Lubbock ... Roy helped me get it set up and running well, but he also knew that blew all the money I had saved for a new paint job ... so he let me keep his paint job on the car ... the only things he asked of me were to play it straight and follow the rules so nothing would tarnish his name and reputation.
If I remember correctly, the best time for Roy's dragster was a 7.07 et and his best speed was a little over 192 mph,
The best time I had in the roadster was an 8.431 at Houma, Louisiana and the best trap speed was 171.10 mph at Riverside, California. I loved Riverside. The drag strip was on the long back straight of the Nascar/sports car circuit. The shut down area was long and up hill, so you could run it run it hard past the second mile per hour light and still be able to get it stopped without having to deploy your chute or overheat your brakes. Those were the days, but that beautiful race course was torn down and replaced with a typical Southern California housing neighborhood. Really sad.
Roy and Mary Jo Rastetter ... a really class pair of individuals

Sorry I am late to the party! Welcome aboard! I really miss that great BBQ place in High Point but I can't remember the name of it since I moved out of NC more than 20 years ago.
