Yes, I’m a newby to aircraft modeling, so please forgive my ignorance. I am going to cut my teeth on a Hasagawa 1/48 scale F6F-3 Hellcat. I see a section for WW2 fixed wing aircraft but don’t know if this is considered fix wing because the wings do pivot for storage. I know that when I was in the Air Force back in the 1980’s that the F-15 was a fixed wing as opposed to the F-14 which was a sweep wing. Just not sure if the Hellcat was considered a fixed wing. Thanks in advance

That's fixed wing as opposed to helicopters

All aircraft that fly by air moving across a surface are fixed wing. The F-14 is a fixed wing it just can be adjusted by sweeping. Helicopters or other rotor blade aircraft gain lift through the blade motion alone. Hellcats or any other aircraft that have wings that fold for storage are all fixed wings. The wings are locked into place for flight and the fold is just a space saving feature.

Thanks for clearing that up for me! I’ll start posting a few pictures after the little league games this weekend!

Helicoptors=Rotory Wing
All other aircraft with wings attached to the fuselage = Fixed Wing
About the only aircraft type that are a mix of the two would be something like the Osprey.

And stuff like this. Definitely a mix of the two. And VERY good example of it at that Neal.

How do you bail out of that??? Yikes! Very carefully??!! I would suspect either first blow off the rotary wings (-> Ka-50) or the complete cockpit section (James Bond )?

How do you bail out of that??? There are valid reasons why it never actually existed! It is a pure rotary wing anyway.
