The PE for the flight deck is officially complete. Now I’m going back and removing lower detail ammo crates from under the flight deck and replacing with PE ammo crates.

Do you even bother to look for any of those tiny bits if they hit the floor?! This is mind blowing stuff, Awesome!!!! When I first started working with PE that was a big issue. As time has went on, I’ve developed strategies to help reduce the chance of a piece falling or shooting across the room. With that being said; if a piece does fall…. It is very very challenging to find it.

Well they had to do something with Mogami after she got the snot beat out of her at Midway, the Japanese could not afford to scrap anything that would still float.
As said elsewhere, this is exceptional work. Due to my lack of skill with and generally intense dislike of PE I appreciate this all the more most excellent sir

Beyond Midway, the Mogami had an extensive history of bad luck. I plan on writing up a small article when the build is finished to highlight some of its misfortunes.

You are making this pe work look easy. It looks brilliant so far and I would bet you have barely touched the pe frets yet.

Thanks everyone!
So I’ve got tons of water right doors etc… but there is no real reference material for the Mogami. I guess I’m going to do what makes sense…

Things have been going pretty smoothly. I have a total of 12 of these to make. They function to hold the plane up off the deck and assist with moving them into launch position. There are wheels on the bottom that sit on the track similar to a train. Time seems to go by in the blink of an eye when working on this ship. I gotta say, I’m really enjoying it!

The box art alone would make be buy this kit. All that PE is impressive and will test your patience to the fullest, but the pay off will by awesome. Love what you are doing.

Thanks everyone! It’s a breath of fresh air to be part of an interactive community. Small update to report. I was able to get all the parts folded and glue up to build the remaining 12 sea plane sleds. Next up will be assembly of those sleds and then onto the turret deck (Bow).

This particular PE is very thin and delicate. The heat could potentially lead to warping/disfiguration. That would be a great idea on larger thick PE. I’m glad you mentioned that! I use gel based super glue. Specifically - Loctite Super Glue Ultra Gel Control

I switched over to using VMS's Flexy CA (Slow and Fast) and haven't had a problem with their containers yet.

Yeah, I use it fast enough for that not to matter. I also lay a bead of the super glue out on a piece of cardboard and use a toothpick to apply it. The lid to the super glue isn’t off for that long.
Speaking of other types of CA glue, I once bought “thin” CA glue. I didn’t realize how thin thin could be lol. It was the same consistency as water and ended up going all over a project. Since that moment, I only use medium or Gel

Also really easy to glue fingers together though.

With all that wonderful teeny, tiny PE work, it almost demands that you use 3-D printed planes. You know the ones, with the open framed canopies! I thought I saw some 1/350 Jakes and Petes, but they were 1/700. But at the rate these things are proliferating, 1/350 examples will be around shortly! I am sure of it. You are doing mind-boggling work, and that is the main reason why I shy away from ship models!

I will be going PE for the planes though which will allow me to open up the canopies.
