Crane/Lifts to extract seaplanes from the ocean:




Upper deck cleaned up to make room for PE deck:

All three decks on the ship. Flight deck and middle deck not going to be glued down until they are completely painted with superstructures ready to be attached:

PE Deck really makes a huge difference! I didn't even know they make PE for decks too. I only know they do make very thin wood sets for many ships.

This is a great build you’re putting together! I’m on board for adding figures.
If you’re unsure which ones to get might i suggest Tamiya’s injection molded ones. They seem a nice compromise between the flat pe ones and the 3d printed ones. Lots to a box as well so good value.

Those look amazing. Looks like they run about $20 for60 to 80 figures depending on theme. Cost a fortune to crew all the ships but boy oh boy they would rock.

Mogami - 850 crew

Akagi - 2000 crew

Yamato - 3150 crew

Hard to say how many of those crew members would be visible and not inside the ship. Maybe 100 for Mogami, 200 for Akagi, and 300 for Yamato.

That all depends on how you're planning to depict the ship. If the crew is at battle stations or flight stations, only certain crew will be exposed at their duty stations. If they are cruising away from the combat area, more mundane tasks may be being performed such as maintenance or other activities would require different crews on deck.

I bit the bullet and ordered the resin 1/350 IJN crew sets from BlackCatModels:











I ordered enough to hopefully crew all of my IJN ships currently in my stash. Estimated to be delivered in 5-10 business days.

Can’t wait to see how they work out. Never was crazy about PE figures a that looked so flat. And older plastic figures didn’t look good either with fat feet. But this looks so promising!

Sorry for how slow this build is going. I’m going hard into the Fw 190 GB at the moment. I’ll dedicate majority of my time on this build once the Fw build is done.

Whoa! Those are impressive. Painting those would seem to be an epic effort in patience. Those will certainly enhance your Mogami.
