First Post on the new site! Tamiya F-14A Jolly Rogers

Figured since I just joined I better post something.... This is my most recent build:  Tamiya's blissful 1/48 F-14A, Quinta Studio cockpit details (I'm in love with them!), Tori models figures and a display base I had lying around (Yes!  I know it's VF-103, but it'll work for now.)

This was my first attempt at figures.  They've scared me, can never seem to get the flesh tones even remotely realistic, but with some patience and a ton of YouTube videos I got these two done.

Well it looks like you nailed both the plane and the figures!

Oh and here they are trying to land with no hook.

Great looking build! I like the base you did a lot.

First off, this is a very good turn out on this Tomcat Stu. Plenty of detailing and lotsa patience with those decals and a great paint and weathering result too. Secondly, figures scare the heck out of me as I never can seem to get 'em right but you've done well with these. Seeing figures like this painted up by beginners on the subject make me want to try them so thank you for the inspiration.

You've definitely got no kick comin' with that beauty of a build.

Nice looking Kitty, discOstu! I think I recognize the aircraft in your avatar. The good old L-39. Eesh...I kinda have bad memories of climbing into the back seat once though.

100% correct!  Wife got me a “Fighter Pilot for a Day” as a birthday present some years back.  Best day ever…….though my kids births were cool too…..

I am so glad you found your way over here. I look forward to see many more. And I am also a HUGE fan of Quinta Studio 3D printed decals too. I used them on my last two builds and I will definitely use them for all of my future builds if it's available.

Yup! I'm familiar with how much fun they are to fly in. I have 2 of them locally that I do avionics work on pretty regularly, and sometimes I "have to" go on test flights. One of them was responsible though for giving me my first (and hopefully my last) third degree ankle sprain. I missed the middle step when climbing up to the rear pit, had my upper foot at an awkward angle and then pushed as hard as I could to get up. Foot slid to the side, rolled...POP! POP!...and I could literally see and hear my ankle inflate. Yeah...good times. LOL

A nicely done build. That kit is a delight to build. I hear ya about figures. Someone taught me a while ago, "there's no such thing as 'flesh tone'. There's only highlights and shading". Once I was able to incorporate that, it helped me. It just takes practice. Dive into it and have fun with it.
