So it's high time that I started this kit with the deadline of the GB looming and the holidays right around the corner. Not many pictures to show yet as I am still assembling the kit. I will echo others thoughts here though, not a fan of the metal lower chassis as the road wheels are loose and there are small gaps where the plastic meets the metal (most will be hidden) but not a fan of the mixed medium. Other than that, the kit goes together really well, and there is a fair amount of detail even with it being 1/48th scale. I should have the construction done in the next few days and then I'll have to brave the cold to paint the beast. I did assemble the tracks after glueing the top to the chassis and although I did it backwards to the instructions on the kit, it still went together fairly easily, will just have to be careful painting them as I move forward  Untitled by matt pohlman, on Flickr  Untitled by matt pohlman, on Flickr More to follow. OK - photo dump update. I finished construction before my Family vacation this christmas and was able to get the kit primed, attempt some black and white technique for the highlights, and finally yesterday was able to lay down the base coat. I'm happy with the camo as it sits, but man 1/48th is hard to paint these patterns.  Today I'm going to attempt to get the subtle weathering done and get it squeezed in just under the deadline. I like the preshading,really helps the basecoat,camo came out great,feel free to post in the gallery even if a little late

Well, made it just under the wire. 1 January 2024, and calling this one done (for now). Looking at photos from the battle of Kursk, I might go back and add more dust to the surfaces, but the tanks were really not that heavily weathered in all the pictures that I have seen. I'll try and get some better pictures for the gallery as well. This was fun and definitely a learning experience. <Matt |
