I’m working on these for my son’s Christmas gift. I’ve been using a glazing method for these basic figures where I paint them satin black, then mist them from the direction I want the light to appear from. After that i make up a glaze in the colors i want and start brushing it on, then drying with a hairdryer and then brushing on another coat. It takes about 10 coats to build up the color. I like how it gives a variation in tone. When his wings were wet i liked how the rips in them looked so after a satin clear i used gloss clear to brush in the rips to look like they were hot lava or bleeding depending on how you want to look at it This is the Horned Devil, he’s about 80% done… and here’s the Bone Devil, very close to done, maybe 98%…
all done with Vallejo acrylics, including the clear coats.

Excellent paint work! Those Vallejo glaze layers do work beautifully! And it’s so deceiving, you put the first two layers on at least, and it looks like there’s no paint, but then as you get four or five on, you can start to see the color building up. It was such a neat thing to learn. And with the Vallejo paint if you don’t like it, you wash it off and if you do like it, you put a little clearcoat on it and lock that layer in place. Lots of fun.
