I also like flying things, pretty much all of them from the early days through the Vietnam era. I tend towards the colorful so really enjoy the WW1 and interwar periods. I built these three at the same time, using three different kits, all 1/72 Revell, Eduard and Roden. This is Brothers Richthofen with Warner Voss. Manfred in the red DR1 (Revell), Lothar in the yellow DR1 (Eduard) and Voss in the olive streaked F1 (Roden). I found each of these kits had their selling points. The Revell kit was the easiest (and cheapest too, as I recall), this is the fairly recent kit from the early 2000s I think, and it has good detail without being a handful. The Roden kit was the most fiddly, but this is in part because it can be built as either a prototype F1, or a production DR1 so has some extra parts to fit. The Eduard kit was also a very nice kit to build. The amount of detail is similar to Revell, but I'd say just a tad crisper. It is however also a little more difficult than the Revell kit, but still very pleasant to build. This was my first attempt at doing the German olive streaking paint scheme, and I used artists oils. Pretty happy with the effect. I found Lothar's paint scheme the most difficult, because the olive steaking is supposed to faintly show through the yellow. Who knew you could have trouble with yellow covering too well. I ended up doing several thinned coats to get the effect I was after.

Nicely built collection! I've never been brave enough to try an oil paint job like that but I really like your results!

I was hesitant about getting into oils, but I started using them for washes, then started wood graining. They work great for wooden props to break up the solid color and give just a hint of graining.
I was somewhat familiar with their use when I did these, but it is a different effect than wood graining so took a bit of trial and error. I use acrylic paints, which don't react to the thinner for the oils and they have a long working time, both of which makes do overs fairly easy. Just wipe it off and try again.
I love oils now, and have collected a whole tub of them in different shades and colors.

Very nice trio of triplanes! And in 1/72 they won’t take up much room on your display shelf.
