I started the Eduard (Revell) Tornado ADV for a GB elsewhere. Lots of PE and resin in the kit. Just started adding PE to the cockpit.

I’m in! I have a thing for the Tornado. I’ve built a few Revell IDS and GR. 4 kits, they are not easy but the end is worth it. They’re a just too many good schemes. I like the black tail option, I went with this same scheme on a British F-4 I built and it turned out killer. Good luck with the build and I’ll be looking in on this one!

What is that part?

It's part of the tail. The back part is an ECM antenna.

Now that engineering has me wondering why they designed the part in such a manner…

Hard to believe that kits still have ejector pin marks and sink marks like that in very noticeable places.

Hard to believe that kits still have ejector pin marks and sink marks like that in very noticeable places. I know right??!! These newer released kits are in competition in regard to gaining the appeal of modelers. No appeal....no sales. There's plenty of manufacturers out there now who get it right in this area.

Really Revell? Really? Sink marks on this piece? Hang with it Mike. I know you'll get that straightened out bud.

And this is really the best kit of the Tornado out there. Yeah there's the Hobby Boss kits (serious shape issues) and the Italeri kits (buy LOTS of putty) but they're not great. I wish someone would do a better kit of the Tornadoes.

Got this back out and worked on it a little bit. Need to do some painting before going forward with it. Revell really over engineered this thing. The fuselage has so many parts it's insane.

Working on painting and adding the PE to the ejection seat.

I got the cockpit done with the Eduard PE but I forgot to take a decent pic of it. I also got the forward fuselage and part of the rear fuselage/intakes built. Had some issues with fit and I see some gaps that I'm going to have to fill.

And here's what I mean by over engineered. Revell decided to make it possible to swing the wings back and forth. In order to do that with the wing pylons on, they made a complex system that would make the pylons move with the wing sweep. The way it's designed, I can't glue the upper and lower wings together until the wing fold/pylon system is all together. The wings will pop off the pivot point if you don't secure all the mechanisms. So damn stupid. Could be that I'm missing an easier way to do it but I don't think I am.

Well I went through the instructions and the kit and I don't see anything that I did wrong. I even checked the Revell instructions to see if I missed something in the assembly sequence. Nothing.
I've put it to the side for now till I feel like tackling all that mess.

Sorry to see that Mike. Don’t blame you for setting it off to the side.

Sometimes.......sometimes things just seem so impossible. I'm not really sure what Revell was thinking in the engineering aspects of the wing sweeping mechanisms but it is what it is I suppose. What really gets me is how ill fitting those intakes were. I wonder if there's a correction set for that issue Mike?
