Wow Pezza, this is looking great. Have just read the thread and will be following from here on. Incidentally, if you want fun assembling tracks, try doing them in 1/48 resin with 2 eensy tiny track pins per link. I'm good cobber thanks ...ahhhh no LOL. 35th Hetzer or 38t chassis is small enough for me.LOL

They were a chore. Not the worst I've done by any means. The most time consuming part really was the clean up, even though there wasn't much. I just wanted them to look good and IMHO they do. We'll see when I get paint on 'em.

Incidentally, if you want fun assembling tracks, try doing them in 1/48 resin with 2 eensy tiny track pins per link. No thanks. That’s the sort of stuff that takes the fun out of model building for me. I had enough hard work working on real tracks in my younger days with a single pin to see any enjoyment in that sort of exercise in frustration in miniature.

No pics today...more of an update and observation. I'm starting to paint both airbrush and by hand. I exclusively use acrylics, (Ammo by Mig, Valleo, AK), and have found that it seems for me that I either NEED to wash my plactic OR primer is required...or both. I airbrushed some grey primer over a couple large flat panels, didn't flood it and kept my brush moving. There are a couple spots where it looks like the primer has pulled away from a particular spot. I'm certian it is not oils from my fingers so has to be mold release. Then when brushing by hand it took 2 or 3 coats to complete coverage. Again the paint seemed to pull away from raised details however did not " pool" ? My guess and solution will be wash and or prime or both. I understand that enamels or oils mostly do not have this issue however I'm kinda stubborn and I like that I can paint in my " cave" rather than going to garage, keeps my mojo flowing. Anyway, pictures to come when I get some noticable painting and assembly done.

Yup, I've found that today's acrylics perform much better with a primer underneath. This wasn't the case in the old days when using Polly S Acrylics and you could paint bare styrene perfectly fine with that stuff.

Those Polly S acrylics were bullet proof. I forgot all about those. I may need to buy a bottle of Polly Scale just to see if they still hold up.

Well, Testors discontinued the Polly Scale line at least a decade before they shut down Model Master... bunch of dopes over there... The Polly Scale paints that I still have are holding up well enough...

I used Polly S when I was a kid. Loved them, they brushed very well and dried dead flat and hard as a rock. Smelled nice too. I have found that Ammo by Mig is so far the easiest for me to use, most of the time I can spray straight from bottke at 18-20psi and it performs amazing light coats are a must. The color looks "off" while wet however develops once cured. Not as hard as the old Polly S but that might be just my meat hooks. Will try to get some pix up tonight of my progress, life stuff right now.

Sprue Brothers has a pretty good selection under the Floquil label. But like Carlos said, those may be Testors leftovers.

I don't always wash parts, but I always prime them when using acrylics. Still have some old poly S railroad colours. They were great paints and had grime and dust 20 years before anyone had heard of AK or Abteilung.

A few days of putting indy links together, 55/side, pretty easy, neccessary, and BORING. The MG 42 was fun, barrel jacket was a 2pc affair, muzzle flash suppresor, rear sight, and charging handle provided much entertainment again not hard but kinda fiddily...worth the effort IMO. The gas mask canister was an 8 pc exercise in frustration. I don't think the seams are going to show but damn coulda been a better way. The overall length of chassis is just under 13in....forgot to get a width. Heh heh, these are the times when it would have been nice of the manufacturer to offer a 3-D printed part in lieu of an 8-part gas mask can! See, this is where 3-D printing can shine, silencing the doomsayers who always seem to predict the demise of our hobby whenever some innovation comes along.

So, I have started on the "Death Dealer". It's going to require lots of filler, but the kit itself is very simple.

Thanks fellas, I weathered the bottom of the chassis, I'll post pics later. I like creating wood texture, it is just layering colors , I go from light to dark, simulating fresh cut to well used or weathered. Sweet " Death Dealer" Dodgy, pretty sure you're gonna pull this off well...nice to have ya back at the bench cobber.

Looking good! Those bench seats are spot on. I'm frightened by the prospect of multiple variants of 251s coming out in this scale...

Howdy boyyos, so I dug out my BSGB entry and want to show you the weathering/small detail added that once the floor is down we'll never see. Added air lines from tank to tank and out to gladhand for trailer hook up. Plan on running a line up to the motor as well. Once battery is in there will be a power cabke and ground cable installed. According to Andy the floors can be removed...I'm not that brave...also allows for a bit of quicker construction as paint would be a waste. I'll probably paint stuff anyway but..... More later.

Great to see some progress Perry. And excellent progress it is. Really sharp work. Making the panels removable would indeed be interesting.
