A6M2 Zero - Attack on Pearl Harbor

Now THIS is a thread that I've been wanting to catch up on for a few days now. That engine work is fabulous as well as all the paint prep, painting process and insignia application. Just beautiful modeling on every single level. And you plan on having this one done SUNDAY??!! Do you work??

Haha I'm actually at work now...  .. 

Last night I put gloss varnish over the decals. Tonight, I plan on doing my oil wash. Saturday I will put down a flat varnish. Sunday I will assemble everything and apply dry pigments. 

Usually, I spend 1-2 hours on my builds every 2 days. My wife and I take turns getting our son to bed, so that's why it's every other day.

  LOL!! That makes sense. I only WISH I could have that amount of time at the bench. I usually wind up with an hour per day at best at the bench. My problem is that in not having enough time, I tend to detail out everything that I build which chews up A LOT of bench time and I end up with a build that'll take me 9+ months to complete. lol

Tonight I was able to apply my washes. I went with a burnt umber primary wash and followed by a grey wash. I only applied the grey wash to the engine cowl since the burnt umber would have not made the details more pronounced.

I feel accomplished for getting the eyes done. I had done eyes on 1/48 in the past and they turned out pretty crazy looking…. These seem much better especially since they haven’t even had a dark wash over them yet.

A bit ahead of schedule…. Everything is assembled. The last step will be additional weathering using dry pigments.

Thank you all! The A6M2 Zero is officially done! I have some glamour shots prepared, but won't have the shots on the carrier deck with all the figures and the B5N2 & D3A1 done until Monday at some point. Thanks everyone for following along, I appreciate all the input and interest over the coarse of this build. I will post the pics including the other planes and figures in the Gallery!

I can’t tell you how much I love this. The zero is my favorite and I think it looks best in Pearl trim. Your weathering and colors are spot on. Gorgeous build. Can’t wait to see everything on the carrier deck.

That's gotta be one of the best built up Zero's I've seen yet Keith. Fantastic detailing and weathering bring this one to the finish line very well. I'm very much looking forward to the scene picture with the figures and the carrier deck. Beautiful work all the way around bud.
