Super looking progress. You are doing some righteous work to make that engine look the part.

Superb detailing on that 801 eagle.
These aircraft do look good all opened up. I built an A8/R2 in 2013 for the first Butcher Bird GB and had a lot of fun opening it all up.

Thanks guys! BUSY week at work, but I managed to get a little more done on the engine...just have a bunch of accessories to finish painting and mount to it, and then its time to move on to the cockpit. Kyle, I used one of those Bronze Metallic Sharpies on the front push rods and MAN, they look so much better than the sparkly Testors-painted rear ones. The act of applying the paint was a lot easier too. Thank you for the info on those!

That is indeed some finely detailed work going on with that 801 eagle. ZM doesn't miss a thing when it comes to including detail in their kits.

Thanks for the comments everybody! Got the engine finished and have a pretty good start on the next sub-assembly, the cockpit. Took a couple of attempts to figure out the best way to mask and paint a couple of the engine accessories, but I'm happy with the end result. Then, on to the cockpit. Ended up using the clear instrument panel option. Zoukei-Mura has you putting the instrument decals on the back of the panel, but that wasn't even possible for the instrument by itself in the upper right corner due to panel structure that covers about 2/3 of what was supposed to be the instrument glass. So, I just put that instrument decal on the front of the panel after painting, and hit it with a drop of clear acrylic for its glass. The rest of the instrument glass was masked with tiny 1.8mm discs cut from a Tamiya masking sticker sheet using the Silhouette Portrait 3 cutter. I also disected the decal that would have gone on the front of the panel for the opaque panel option so the placards could be applied to the front of the instrument panel. Zoukei-Mura had no option for doing that with the clear panel option, so I improvised. After an MRP semi-matt clearcoat went over everything, I also hit even the clear glass with the clear acrylic to shine it up a little more. Overall, I'm really impressed with the quality of the decals and the crispness with which everything went together.

How much of the engine will be visible when mounted? I've got this same kit in my stash, so, I'll be taking notes if you don't mind. Cheers Dave

That engine turned out fabulous and I like the way you improvised the IP decal problem by putting them in the front of the IP with a drop of clear. That pit is coming together VERRRRY well.

Thanks fellas! Thug626, no problem with taking notes...I like to share as much intel as I can on new kits. Definitely noticing an improvement in the ease of painting things with the new Paasche H I got last week to replace my old Paasche H that finally gave up the ghost after 38 years of service. Started working on getting the pit all put together. Got the little red t-handles and gear lever all painted up and attached to the instrument panel. MAN...those parts were TINY! Had to enlarge the hole for the gear lever, and the holes for the t-handles were both too big. Just scraped paint away from the bottoms of the handles and from the insides of the holes, tacked in place with Tamiya Extra Thin, and then filled the extra empty space in the holes from the back with a little bit of Bondic UV-curing glue. Just finished it off with a dry fit of the upper instrument panel, which actually is a really nice fit onto the lower panel. The kit has little glitches and engineering oversights here and there, but still a fun build.

Thanks for the kind words, gentlemen! After being thoroughly disappointed by the HGW seatbelts I had bought for this project (I guess paper could be a kind of "cloth", and the reference numbers for the photo-etch parts were ALL wrong and the kit seemed to be lacking some pretty prominent metal components) I looked around and ended up getting a Quinta cockpit set for the 1/32 Revell offering. I have always loved Quinta's seat belts, so I figured I couldn't go wrong. Well, Quinta came through again! I'm pretty happy with how they look. Had to wait a little while longer after getting them for the HO Scale lift rings I decided to try for attaching the shoulder belts to the rear bulkhead. They were shiny silver metal, so I gave them a little bath in gun bluing solution to turn them dark grey.

That.......is one VERY convincing and well put together pit eagle!! The amount of detail that's just in this part of the aircraft is impressive to say the least. I am a bit surprised that the HGW belts were a bust in this case but Quinta belts are indeed a great substitute as seen here. Keep 'er comin pal.....this is looking GREAT!!!
