Well if it makes you feel any better the cockpit and engine look fantastic.

These Eduard kits, while frustrating at times to put together, build up into a VERY good end product Gil and I have an idea that with your skillset, will be able to navigate your way through. Eduard does make PE engine panels for these kits if you're looking to open a panel or two.
Your pit and engine are indeed looking quite the part man.

Looks really good, Gil! It seems very few kits that have the parts to display opened up work well closed up unless you leave out half the parts and even then a lot of the time cowlings and covers don't fit well. Tamiya managed it with their 1/32 kits but not much else on that list.
Cheers, Jay

This looks terrific so far! I hate cowlings that aren't molded to fit detailed work under them. With as great as your BMW powerplant looks I kinda hope you leave some cowling open to be able to see it

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I have since installed the cowling and had to use the heat from a soldering iron to reshape the lower part of the cowling on the starboard side near the wing root which was molded at the wrong angle. I got it straightened out and formed up. I also installed the cannon compartment cover. I debated opening up a cowling cover, but I really wanted more of a clean look on this one since I have a Tamiya D-9 in my display with all the covers open. It will take a bit of filler at various points to take her to the primer stage. More pics soon.

Spend alot of scratch on a model kit and one would think you'd not have to do all this extra just to get it built...I understand and admire your tenacity as this would have been in my garbage bucket by now.
Looks like I'll be avoiding Eduard model kits it's disappointing to see all the trouble everyone seems to be having with them

These Eduard A variants can be tricky to close up but I know you'll prevail over the issues.

Looks like I'll be avoiding Eduard model kits it's disappointing to see all the trouble everyone seems to be having with them They are frustrating to build at several points in the build but as long as one moves slowly and purposefully, the issues can be dealt with and overcome to make for a true gem of a build. I built an A8-R2 for the first Butcher Bird GB back in 2013 and may build another one of these as I feel I could have worked on the main gear strut angles a little more but was happy with the outcome. Apologies to Gil for hi-jacking the thread....just trying to show the potential of these kits.

Yeah, I agree that the potential for the final result is good. The other Eduard build I completed was the BF110C. The problems with those kits are notorious and I suffered through most of them and came out with this:
Loved the result, but not the process. Just unnecessary in IMO.

I definitely hear you on that Gil!! That 110 turned out a real beauty. I'm going to have to get with you on that one because I've got an Eduard 110 in the stash.

I've never suffered through the early Eduard 190's. But I've heard if you want them closed up its a lot of work. The new ones are much better.
Impressive work on yours

Here is some color. I made a little change to the livery. It is the same aircraft but I noticed there was a slightly different variant of the same in the instructions. The lower engine cowling is painted yellow so I figured it would give it a little more character. Actually it is the aircraft depicted on the box art above. So I started by painting the yellow on the cowling and the red band on the rear fuselage instead of using the decal. Of course, I will reverse mask in preparation for the blue underside and base.

So much easier to do it as you have. Paint color and then mask for camo

Colors, camo pattern and mottle effects all came out first class. I can remember when I first started painting Luftwaffe aircraft and was scared to death of mottle patterns. After a few tries I finally got it down. A little tedious with the work but not nearly as hard as I thought it would be. Lookin' good Gil!!

Thanks guys. Painting is always a fun step for me, especially these colorful Luftwaffe birds. I painted this with classic Model Master enamels. These classics are easier to spray that most acrylics, especially for the mottling. Less over spray and tip drying.
