Good call on changing that prop and spinner out Chris. Lookin good buddy!! Thanks, I never did understand the issue with the kit gun cover -- the resin one looks pretty much the same to my eye. However, the difference in the spinner is clear to see. Also, I was hoping I could use the main landing gear legs in my spares box (from the Italeri/Dragon 190D) to improve the look , but it seems they are the exact same length as the kit legs

I used the complete main landing gear from an Eduard 190 kit and it worked perfectly. While I was at it I also used the sliding canopy from the D-9 kit. I’ll get a thread up on my Black 10 soon so you can see.

Finished up cockpit and attached resin gun cover. Tried improving cockpit coaming with some vallejo putty. ![](https://i.postimg.cc/hP1jQk1k/2024-GB-1-48-TAM-FW-190-D-9-IW-1024-223315.jpg)

It's a shame the cockpit won't be visible like this once it's stuffed in the fuselage. I agree on the spinner/prop upgrade it looks great!

I've had 3 complete Eduard A-8 kits at the time so it wasn't a biggie to loose one to make my D-9 look a tad better/ more accurate. That cockpit looks dang good Chris. Like Brent said.....it's a shame to see all that beautiful work get covered up.

I don't think the legs on the Tamiya kit are wrong, but getting the stance right is not easy and that has a big effect on how the model sits. I've read a couple threads about 190 gear where different types are compared side to side and they have found the Tamiya legs are not all that bad. It was easier when we could just slap the Monogram kit together and be happy.

Coaming is complete and properly pigmented (I think). Some better office pictures as well. Not shown here: Cockpit installed and wings attached. ![](https://i.postimg.cc/9fXLfVsY/2024-GB-1-48-TAM-FW-190-D-9-IW-1024-6166.jpg) ![](https://i.postimg.cc/ZR2HjNnw/2024-GB-1-48-TAM-FW-190-D-9-IW-1024-6167.jpg) ![](https://i.postimg.cc/85jwh4pF/2024-GB-1-48-TAM-FW-190-D-9-IW-1024-6171.jpg)

That pit looks great !! Lotsa details going on in there!! That IP shroud pad color looks right to me. Maybe dirty it up a little but other than that it’s spot on.

My bench, as of right now.. Wings on and gaps filled with stretched sprue and tamiya extra thin, so waiting for that to cure about 48 hrs before sanding it. Now, if I will just remember that the cowling is not glued on before I pick it up next time... ![](https://i.postimg.cc/hGFk5pnG/2024-GB-1-48-TAM-FW-190-D-9-IW-1024-215740.jpg) ![](https://i.postimg.cc/FHJtpw2q/2024-GB-1-48-TAM-FW-190-D-9-IW-1024-215747.jpg) ![](https://i.postimg.cc/bvkhy4gb/2024-GB-1-48-TAM-FW-190-D-9-IW-1024-215756.jpg)

Or maybe this one... ![](https://i.postimg.cc/QVGk2JzS/image.png) I'm in it for this one as well Chris. I like the extra mottle pattern on the nose and the bare metal on the bottom side of the wing. Either one would look good but there's just something about this scheme that made me look twice at it. Looking forward to seeing the paint fly onto this one buddy.

A bit more progress on the Tamiya Dora. Remembering what a pain these gear legs are to install from previous builds, I am very tempted to glue these gear legs on now but I don't think they would survive the amount of handling during the painting process . I noticed the 'peg' on the main gear leg that the retraction strut attaches to sticks out quite a bit further than it needs to , So I was able to flare the end of it with a hot hobby knife, so now they are attached but can freely move at the same time. This helps imensly getting everthing positioned correctly... now I have to use extreme disipline not to play with them too much so I don't break them off before final attachment... ![](https://i.postimg.cc/hGGrfTYP/2024-GB-1-48-TAM-FW-190-D-9-IW-1024-194619.jpg) ![](https://i.postimg.cc/FHpprDDB/2024-GB-1-48-TAM-FW-190-D-9-IW-1024-002722.jpg) ![](https://i.postimg.cc/tC0221s2/2024-GB-1-48-TAM-FW-190-D-9-IW-1024-002751.jpg)

I've never been brave enough to put the legs on except for dry fitting. I WOULD break them off that's a given. Looking forward to whatever camo scheme you are going to put on this

With you having built a number of these, you have a good "feel" for what you can and can't get by with but I'm of the same opinion as Brent and Carlos here. I tend to install the legs last as I'm sure to break something off or to get something out of wack in handling during the painting process.

Short tragic model stories... at one of m y old homes, I would build in my hobby room, but do my painting in the garage. There was no indoor passage to the garage, you had to exit the room walk down the side yard, then go into the garage via a side door. It was a block wall on one side and the house side on the other, making for a narrow walkway. In the afternoon when the onshore breeze kicked in, it would become something of a wind tunnel. on at least two occasions that I remember, those winds lifted aircraft builds off of their open top boxes that I was using to carry those projects to the painting area and then the model planes fell to the concrete below, breaking off the landing gear struts. I repaired both of those, but still it made for some angry moments and cursing.

I repaired both of those, but still it made for some angry moments and cursing. You describe my situation now almost to a T. I paint in my workshop which is totally outside. But to get there I must pass between the house and the detached garage in a narrow walkway. This is my wind tunnel. After I nearly lost a car to a stiff breeze I make sure I carry everything in a tote now for safety. So I’ve managed to dodge any crisis.
