Aoshima 1979 Mazda RX-7 GTU

I will be spending most of the day and evening watching this year's 24 Hours of Daytona. Because of that I decided to jump in the 24 hour group build. This kit is ridiculously simple. An ancient motorized kit from Aoshima. And it's a 24 hour build so that is perfect. I will be adding nothing to this. Just a very quick and dirty build. Most of it will be decal work.  Here are the sprue shots and the time I started. Technically in the official GB rules it runs from 12-12 in your local time so I am an hour late. Already got the body primed and painted white by the time I'm posting this. I have to say I am a bit nervous about the decals. They have yellowed a bit and I hope they don't shatter. This is a 2009 boxing I bought second hand and it clearly wasn't stored in an ideal spot. I will attempt to get them to work though.

Alright. We got an ok start. Chassis is painted and weathered a bit. No one will ever see this but I still did my normal detail painting. Wheels were masked earlier with Mr. Masking Sol Neo and the centers were painted. Very pleased with how those have turned out. And the body was quickly sprayed with Tamiya TS-26 over a light coat of Tamiya fine surface primer white

Kit decals were toast. Shattered even with a clear coat. Not all of them. I got a few of them installed but then I had two shatter in a row. So this took a trip to a hot water bath and I managed to get all the ones I had installed back off the car. Now we have shifted gears to a weekend warrior racer. Maybe a guy in the SCCA or just a guy going to track days. Went to the decal stash and am making up a fantasy livery. Time for a nap and we'll finish her up tomorrow...today...whatever.

My money is on you getting this done by the deadline. Sucks about the decals but it looks like you have it handled

I expected it. They did not look great. Was hoping the clear would hold them together but no luck. But that’s ok. I’m fine with the weekend warrior look

I’m not kidding. I glued the last piece on at 11:59. lol. Anyways. 24 hours to build this. 23 really, since I started late. Glamour shots will come later.
