A 105mm M68 main gun, plus a twin TOW launcher… man this thing is wickedly armed!

Soooooo cool. I hope you've taken out a patent, otherwise the U. S. Army may pinch your idea. Bookmarked cos I'm loving this. Maybe a games designer would buy it, who knows?

I wasn't happy with the front of the hull, mainly I had not allowed for engine access, so I used the Bradley part, cut it down and kind of blended it in. Now I like it better. IMG_4215 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_4214 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Turret has more detail added, noodling on how to finish out the added extension now. Lower glacis is about done too, still needs tow points. IMG_4213 by Russel Baer, on Flickr

The gray ones are Meng bolt heads on washers, very handy. I like them a lot.

Wow! The changes you made really made a difference in the overall look of this. I like where you are going with it! I agree the Meng bolts are a great added detail

Taking an enforced break for a couple of days, got "trigger finger" fixed in thumb and middle two fingers, should be back at the bench in a bit. In the meantime, I'm going to use the time off to noodle some more. I'm thinking a BIG muzzle break on the 105 is called for. IMG_4217 by Russel Baer, on Flickr It looks worse than it is....

get some rest! I have one in each hand along with both thumbs beat up. My wife had a joint in her right index finger fused last January. Took a long time to hear. But we are old. . . .
Keep it elevated and keep you medicated.

Sorry to see your buggered up Russ, hope you have a speedy and complete recovery. For insperation I knew a gentleman who lost all his fingers and thumbs in an accident while on active duty Air Force. Didn't slow him down a bit...built really really great 1/72nd planes. Where there's a will, there's a way. Get well good sir.

Thanks y'all. I'm already able to move my fingers and thumb, doc said it would be fast. No pain now, no meds necessary. Joe, I had something called "trigger finger", caused by knots on the tendons that retract the two middle fingers and thumb. Those knots caught in the sheaths the tendons are in, making my fingers (and thumb) lock up when curled. He also sied it's very common after carpal tunnel surgery which I had earlier this year. Go figure. It's fixed now, easy and quick.

Trigger finger? Is that like “M1 Thumb”? Could be similar. I got it from being a mechanic/technician/fabricator for 35+ years. Repeated shocks, impacts, tension.... yeah, could be similar.

I'm already MUCH better, helped along by my Challenger 1 snagging a VERY unexpected 1st at ModelFiesta. Mike's a witness, I cannot tell a lie. Look mom, no bandages! IMG_4218 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Back to work tomorrow...

Back at it. I cleaned my bench up the other day and took some time to just sit and stare at this thing, which was a good idea since I noticed one important thing: There was no aperture for a gunner's direct sight. So I made one from a piece of aluminum tube. It's to the left (right in pic) of the main armament. IMG_4219 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Then I picked up where I'd left off, building the beginnings of a reduced size access door in the hull rear: IMG_4220 by Russel Baer, on Flickr Also visible is one of the four lifting eyes I added. And then I figure I'd do some welds. Since it's a what-if, I thought why not? I think they're too big now, but I'll re-visit tomorrow. IMG_4221 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I haven't decided on whether or not to add any applique armor to the hull sides, but I will add fenders and mud guards, kind of like what's on an -E8 Sherman. I'm also still pondering how to finish out the turret bustle extension. For sure some stowage provisions, probably open baskets.

Passin'gas: I figured out the rear hatch. I cut it so just the back was hinged, then I had to clearance the turret bustle to fit as it rotated. IMG_4229 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_4223 by Russel Baer, on Flickr While I was at the bench, I got the driver's hatch on, reworking the hinges slightly since the Tamiya kit parts are pretty basic, and added tow points to the front. IMG_4225 by Russel Baer, on Flickr IMG_4228 by Russel Baer, on Flickr And just for good measure, I am in the process of making a rear access hatch from an AFV Club Stryker part. IMG_4224 by Russel Baer, on Flickr I've already got ideas for another one....

Russ you're doing a great job on this one figuring out all of the in's and outs as you go along. Congratulations on your First Place Win with the Challenger as well 🏆 . Totally missed that show this year but hope to be making it to Model Mania in a few months.
