Pacific Island Backdrop/Base Photo Diorama

As some of you are aware, I recently got some background/bases from Coastal Kits. This company specializes in making "realistic" backgrounds which are intended to be used for photographs of scale models. With the backgrounds, you can also purchase bases which have an image printed on them. Unfortunately though, these printed bases are completely flat and fake looking. To remedy this issue, I decided to make my own base to go with this background that I had purchased from Coastal Kits.

I have quite a few other backgrounds in my inventory that I plan to do the same process for.

Now you have the setup! The base and the background blend in really nice.
I bet it will look most realistic if photographed in real sunlight.

Holy SCHMOKES man!! You've really done that up right Keith!! Excellent backdrop to go with that superb base work. I can't get over how real that works. I'll be looking into these backdrops myself as I'd really like to up my game on the photography of my work. Thank you for posting this bud.

Yes! 👍 That turned out so well!   And it really opens up the opportunities for some very creative photo work.  I need a desert background for a couple planes; I can see a Springtime project taking shape! 😄

I’m glad you like it. I actually took it outside this morning, but it’s challenging to get a good angle where the shadows make sense. The background is what makes it hard.

Thank you! It took me a good long while to get the grass the right color to make the transition the way it is. I’m happy to hear it appears seamless.

Thanks Joe! If you do go forward on a background, I would suggest going my route and doing your own base. Not worth the money for the flat picture.
