I bet that tanks on the top deck would make an LST too top heavy. Each combat loaded Sherman weighed over 30 tons. LST's were notorious for rolling in rough seas due to their flat bottom hull. I've seen photos of the top deck with Half Tracks, but those weigh a lot less than a Sherman. Exactly. When you need to pack as much as you can on a ship and you have the choice of 6 tanks or 12 trucks then the choice is easy.

I just saw this kit on a commercial site for sale and wondered what could be done, so I am glad to see you undertaking this here on MSC. It does look like the research part of the project is well underway. I will be following this to see where your imagination and research takes you. Seems to be almost endless possibilities available to you on this one. Thanks for taking the time to photo and post.

Hi, Brent! Thanks for looking. I am building this out of the box. It was shelved for a bit, as my airbrush (Badger 105) was sent off to be repaired. That is back, but not tested. Anyway, I got another kit, the Tamiya M-113, done so this one is moving again. If you "Google" search for "building the Lindberg LST" You will find a couple of remarkable efforts. One guy got about 50 1/245 vihicles and added them to the deck....opened the ramp and build bow doors. Way out of my league. But, interesting as can be. Certainly piqued the AMS portion of the brain. These kits are fairly inexpensive, so I may yet try that. Those vehicles and stowage for this are pricey, though. I think this has just over 180 parts. Around 200 of them are eye-blindingly small and Only a few large pieces have any sort of locating help on the deck. So, outside of the gun tubs and large uprights, it is all just butt joints. Oh, and let us not forget the posts for the railings!

180 parts for something like this doesn't sound too awful bad Lyle and you're off to a good start with it. It would be pretty neat to see some vehicles and scale people on it.

The number of parts isn't too bad...it is the size and lack of help positioning them. I only have one old eye working! Thanks for your kind words. I plan onlooking around more for the vehicles. . . they seemed rather pricey, though.

Well, coming down the stretch I guess. Just about done with pieces/parts - the railing posts are left to do along with the thread cable and maybe some on the mast. I am watching another kit on Ebay - thinking about trying to open the bow doors and adding a bit on the deck. We'll see. So, what is left is, 1) railing post and cable, mast rigging and flags, black waterline line (trying out 1 mm pinstripe stape.) and then decals. Proud of a few things. I've found everything I've dropped or "lost". So far, all the fiddly bit have stayed in place (props, antennae, guns, etc.). This is a biggie an almost nothing has any mounting help. And, yes some of the things are a bit crooked, but they are all there! A major accomplishment for me.

Your a building machine as of late Lyle! Looks like your near the finish line with this one Good morning, Mr. Jacobs. Thank you. It is close. Decals and railings are about it. Oh, and the black waterline marking. I just realized that I may have a problem in placing the decals that are provided to mark out the deckhouse details, doors, portholes, etc....oopsie.

Well, portholes can easily be done with a pin vise drill bit… doors perhaps with some little bits of strip styrene cut to proper length… there are always workarounds… 🤔

And, if anyone with a 3-D printer wants to get the files and print me some tanks, trucks, jeeps, crates...I'll pay you. IF we can find something reasonable to get. Now, What decals there are and that I could fit are on. One "almost" casualty on a forward gun with a bent barrel. Straightened it added a tiny drop of glue. Another gun and a mast at the stern detached - glad they did, as they did not break, but only came loose. The flag is probably not in the right place....instructions had it on a line from the T-mast to a mast on the stern with other signal flags. At a 45 degree angle or so. Out of cardboard. Nope. So, she is flying high. Started on the railings. Gluing a couple in place then I hope to run the thread between them and add the others. We'l see. And, the two railing posts and thread

Kyle, thank you. Got the railing post on. Can one eye cross? I did "mis-place" two of them and used some stretched sprue to replace them. Things are drying overnight now. . . and I'll trim the replacements tomorrow.
