;DI've taken the plunge and decided to pop my paper-panzer cherry - the place where whatever you add to it /paint it you can't be too wrong ;D I made the decision early on (fully supported by SWMBO) to use only I already have- no buying ANYTHING for this - built solely out of the contents of my stash, the spares box and my existing stock of styrene sheet & profiles, wire, copper sheet . No pics just yet- want to whet your appetites

Great to have you all along. Well as its a paper-panzer- a bit of a back story: When: early 1980s Where: Western Europe - NATO Central Front What: The Soviet Union, seriously p**sed off with western interference in Afghanistan decide its time for a bloddy nose and came sreaming across the inner German bor der. The Leopard 2 was not yet fully integrated into the Bundeswehr and Dutch army; Available hulls were rushed into service with the Rheinmetal L44 120mm gun contained in a heaviyl armoured , slab-sided casement. The new design permitted the use of an autoloader, reducing the crew to 3. OK nuff of that... Base kit was this: picked up on ebay for £2 - arrived partly (and badly) constructed and painted- This was used for some more bits - hull and running gear used in my (stalled) BARV build: -along with mutiple contributions from my spares box and styrene stash. First job was the casement made of 60 thou' built directly onto the Leo hull, also added some extra"armour" to the upper glacis with 20 thou sheet. copiuos amounts of filler and some dressing with track gousers Roof has had a bit of work with the commanders hatch from the Italeri turret built up with some sheet. Various other bits of dressing have also been done including 'scopes and sights. Still have to sort out positioning and style of remaining hatches. However, the most time so far has been spent on a CIRWS: This has been built out of a Laser sigthing unit from a Trumpeter T-55/Type59; a smoke grenade launcher from thr Tamiya Leo and a spare.50 cal barrel from Academy. Add some styrene bits and some fusewire and its nearly done! The base for it is the final drive housing from a Trumpy T-55 and the sight is from the Tamiya Leo. Have to say- I think it looks like it could be something that would work Folks, as always, all comments, suggestions and ideas very graciously received P

Thanks Dan. Plodding ever onwards: Casement roof and hatches now almost done. The mantlet was made up of part of the canister that holds little toys etc from a kids "gum-ball" machine, and with coupous amounts of filler the original L-44 Rheinmetal was also secured. Still loads to do but taking shape nicely. As always ACW P

I missed the updates on this! It does look a little like a JP, just the shape I suppose. But I also think that's a good thing:). It's looking mean and I love the concept. Great stuff!

Interesting build Paul, don't often see modern what-if's
You're right, the AFV in that last picture would make a great scratch build!

Cheers Gents. I've got a few more modern What-ifs in the pipeline and these ones were real and viable ideas but just didn't happen primarily because of money. On a kind of related note ; out of curiosity, what would people think of a modern take on Hobart's Funnies ?

Hello folks- after a holidahy enforced absence, its time to get stuck in again!
Kids are spending the res of the week camping with the inlaws and SWMBO will be joining them on sWednsday -so I canglue and paint away without the subtle and not so subtle coments about fumes and mess etc.

Shawn, Chad ; Thank you very much guys Sorry for the lack of progress on this, but happy to say its back on the bench and getting some paint on. I'm going for a variation of a MERDEC type scheme. Should be interesting. As for the funnies: i've been building up a stock of hulls to use: inspiration primarily from the prototypes and ideas in Volume 2 of Mike Shackleton's sublime Leopard Trilogy. Whilst these are obviously based on Leo 1 hulls -, can't see any reason why others e.g. Leo 2/ M60/M1/Chally , couldn't be used - I have plans to try one or two on some Leo 2 hulls.

Base coat of Tamiya Deck Tan (from a rattle can) Having a few problems with my airbrush at thev moment, so I've gone for a hairy brush approach with a merdec type scheme A bit harsh looking but a filter or two should soften things out. P
