I will be starting this one next. I built it a couple of years ago and I liked how it came out. That is Light Blue Metallic that I painted it with previously. I have two bottles of paint from MCW that I am thinking about using; either Evening Orchid Metallic (also known as Iris Mist) or Willow Green Metallic. Both are 1965 Chevy colors. Evening Orchid was also a color for the 1965 Pontiac which I have used before. So I won't be painting tomorrow because its going to be windy and cold but maybe by Monday the weather will be better. I'll be getting the body ready tomorrow and I think I will do this one in the Foose style with the wheels and engine suggested in the instructions. I am partial to the Evening Orchid but what do you think? Thanks for looking!

I really like that evening orchid. I need to get a ‘65 to add to my collection of impalas. Your blue one looks really nice too. Look forward to seeing this

Thanks, Kyle and TJ! I appreciate your comments! I airbrushed the Evening Orchid today and was disappointed. After 3 sessions of applications, about 3/4th of an ounce which is a lot of paint for an airbrush, all I got was a nice silver. Obviously, not mixed right. I've got a message into MCW to see if they will send another bottle. Or I could just paint over it with the Willow Green. I'll have to think about it. 😭 Same paint, same airbrush, different ownership of MCW

Bookmarked this. I hope you get the paint squared away with MCW

I was unaware that MCW was under new management. I hope that doesn't affect their quality across the board as that is some really good paint to work with. Looking forward to seeing more on this one JR.

Certainly lacks saturation. Have you tried it over pink primer?

Certainly lacks saturation. Have you tried it over pink primer? This could be a good thought. I do like to sprinkle pink primer under my reds and yellows. I think it would be worth a shot here on a test spoon

I follow the old rules - silver under metallics, white under pearls. I used Dupli-color light primer followed by Tamiya Gloss Aluminum as a base coat. I've never used a pink primer and I don't think it was even available until maybe a few years ago. I don't think I have ever read about it in the magazines. I'm not saying it wouldn't be a good idea, I've just never had to use it and shouldn't have to go to extraordinary measures to get the color that I bought.

I hear you completely and you’re right. You shouldn’t need to do that. For me, I love trying different paints over different base colors so I have several different colors of primer I like to play with. Never know what I may like. But certainly what’s worked before should work again so that’s very disappointing.

Thanks, Kyle! Well, I corresponded with MCW and he says his color is correct, I beg to differ so I will not be buying any more paint from MCW. I repainted this one with Willow Green Metallic and it came out great with 1/2 oz. of paint. A nice pastel green metallic. I like it too it is just a shame that the Evening Orchid didn't work out. I'll add a coat of clear and this one will be done with paint. 😎

I like that color too. Looks great. Similar to the lime gold I’ll be painting a 67 mustang. I got lime gold from both MCW and scalefinishes and over anything but white the MCW lime gold looks silver. And scalefinishes has a wonderful lineup of period paints too. I’ll be leaning more towards scalefinishes after hearing of your issues too. Look forward to seeing this one come together now.

Love the color. You are not the first person I’ve heard about that has issues with this particular paint company. Sorry to hear this. Looking forward to seeing this finished 😉

I hear you on being a tad bit disappointed that the Evening Orchid you had didn't work out. You've definitely chosen a good secondary color choice though. I've always used Tamiya Gray under MCW paints and haven't had any bad luck yet but with the new company takeover anything goes I guess.
Looking great so far JR.

Thanks, ALL! I appreciate your comments! I finished the foil on the body today! I have taken the photos with the light not directly on the subject or you wouldn't be able to see the foil. But I have always thought if its hard to see it must be on there well. But that might be kinda self-serving! Its probably just because the paint is a lighter shade. Thanks for looking!

Thanks, Kyle, TJ, and Handlabeled! I appreciate your comments! Finished the engine this morning. I added a MAD pre-wired distributor with Pro Tech wire looms and plug boots. I also added a fuel line with a filter, a support for the air conditioner compressor and an alternator bracket. And now I am going to add the fan that I forgot to attach. Oops! Thanks for looking! 😎

I've always liked your clean foiling efforts JR and this one is no exception. It just sets the great paintwork that you've pulled off here on this car. Engine work is nice and clean as well.
Your choice in modeling subjects is as equally good as the build themselves. LOVE it!!

Thanks, Joe and Kyle1 I appreciate your comments! Finished the interior and the decals fit well although its hard to see the speedo under the plastic glass. Seems to be just the right mix of black, white, and chrome, IMO. A nicely designed interior. Thanks for looking! 😎
