I'm thinking about getting one. I've been reading reviews on Amazon on wire and knife cutters and seeing good and bad reviews on both. Any suggestions would be appreciated and a good company.

I recently bought this one for cutting upholstery foam, as well as high-density toolbox foam. It worked great for both. I found that the secret to making clean cuts with it is to go slow and use very short strokes in a sawing action with it. That also keeps the smoke and fumes to a minimum. Longer strokes produce a lot of smoke for some reason. hotwirefoamfactory.com/K42P61B_Pro6InchHotKnifeKit.html

I don't have one yet, but from what I've gleamed on the various FB foam modeling groups, the Proxxon is considered the gold standard. Proxxon Foam Cutter at Amazon

I ended up with the Proxxon. It takes some getting used to and you can't really do anything big on it but it works quite well. Any troubles or botches I've had with it are attributable to the operator not the machine
