I started this, one or maybe, two years ago. I cut out the drain holes, placed a piece of timber in the hull to take a couple of brass rods. Painted the insides black and rolled up a piece of black paper to 'fill' the hull and restrict light. I also replaced the steps and hand rails on the conning tower with wire. I also replaced the 'horse shoes'. I did a few other things as well, but now I just want to finish it. at the moment it's undercoated in black and I hope to post some recent work pics in a couple of days. You've got some good work going on with this one Rob. Over the years I've often thought about crossing over into the armor and ship categories just because there's so much cool stuff out there to build. The problem with doing that is that I already know myself all too well......I'd then be stocking up on armor and ship kits to add to my already overstocked stash of aircraft and autos that I have.

Looks good! Now it just needs a proper paint job and the rigging. I always have like those large box scale Revell sub kits. They just need a little extra work like you’ve done here to make them have that wow factor.

Yeah I get that. I've now got some autos creeping into the stash and I'm even considering a truck build and I so want to do a model railroad and, and, and ........... But remember, 'He who dies with the most kits wins!'

Love the Uboat mate, neat trick with the paper....I bought a resin up detail set for mine from a guy whi could sell ice cubes to Eskimos....should go without saying once the hull halves were closed and deck installed....couldn't see anything. I also opened the limber holes and deck planking, with I'd knowen ya 20yrs ago...ya saved me a buck or two LOL. Yuo're in the home stretch now Rob...redneck phrase" git 'er done" LOL.

So after a long hiatus I've started work on several kits that have been sitting on the bench and U 99 is one of them. I have yet to fix the tower and deck gun, but have put some time into giving the deck a 'stressed' look. I also painted the lower hull, but I'm not sure the colour is dark enough. Whilst painting the lower hull my shakes got in the way and I kept knocking the model against things, eventually dislodging the rudders and other parts of the hull fittings. Oh well, as one of our prime ministers once said, life wasn't meant to be easy.......... Sorry, these two photos are out of sequence. the first one shows the stressed deck and main hull colours. The second one shows it all in black undercoat with the deck painted in burnt umber to represent the mahogany timber that the decks were fitted with.

Wow Dodgy - looking great. I think I started one of these ages ago but couldn't get the deck to sit down. Not sure what became of it. Sure like where yours is going!

Looking good from here! Are you going to go heavy on the weathering on this? I'm still working that out, but I think most of the weathering will represent paint, metal and wood v the ocean.

Coming along nicely buddy. Looks like you got the color to lay down well Rob!! Yeah, I'm a bit worried about that. Either I'm better with the airbrush than I thought, or the fickle finger of fate is just waiting for its opportunity!
