Hobbyboss 1/35 RSOV 12 Hour Challenge

Well, Its that time of year again, time for the annual So.Cal AMPS Online 12 Hour Build challenge- complete a kit in three separate four hour Online Zoom Meeting build sessions. This year my kit that the guys chose for me via vote is the Hobbyboss 1/35 Ranger Special Operations Vehicle w/Mk.19. Due to the time constraints I am building this straight out of box with zero changes to the model or aftermarket items added during the GB Zoom meetings.



Today's session went very smoothly aside from some ambiguity as to exact placement of the engine, and the transfer case... I will add that Hobbyboss has you add the exhaust pipe at one point, but it would probably go in more easily in the previous step at the same time as the engine and transmission. Anyways, by the end of today's four hours, I had gotten much further along than I had hoped for, with most of the major sub assemblies completed.

Next month I should complete the rest of assembly and get a base coat of primer on.

One reason that I selected this kit as a candidate was a nice simple paint scheme... overall flat black!

A 12 hour challenge is an interesting concept. It looks like you have it well handled so far.

This past Saturday we had session 2 of our 12 hour build challenge. I finished building all sub assemblies, stowage items & weapons, then was able to get them all primed in black using Mig Ammo One Shot Primer.



And of course I had to test fit everything…



Next month is the final 4 hour session to wrap this project up.

The black primer really shows the nice detail of this kit.

Do you have to do all of your painting during the three four-hour windows? Or does that get done "behind the scenes" in between meetings?

Never seen this kit before but looks like a great choice for a timed build. Does it come with the figures? If so will they be done for this build?

Brent, the kit is really a gem. I can’t say enough good things about it, although Hobbyboss did bone up by not providing a few US specific items like the water jugs and shovel, instead providing the UK type. I replaced those with items from my spares bin.

Dupes, painting has to be done during the four hour windows. Pick your color scene and paint types wisely 😉



TC, no figures come with this kit, and I would not try to cram any figure painting to within the 4 hour sessions along with the building and painting. Although I do have an AM set on order that I will add after the contest is over… 😏

Yesterday was the final 4 hour Zoom session for this 12 Hour build challenge and I was able to get this kit completed at around the 3 1/2 hour mark...



I will get a full multi view series of photos up in awhile in the completed section...

Knocking out quality builds like this in 12 hours is where it's at. That's how you chew through a stash!!

It would be nice! But I don’t think that I have very many kits that could be built in 12 hour challenges like this…

You did THAT......in 12 hours??!! I'd be hard pressed to complete something of this quality in 4 months!! Good on you for turning out a quality product in such a short amount of time Carlos.

Thanks Joe. Yup, built in 12 hours of bench time broken up into three separate four hour sessions. It’s not as hard to do as you might think. Kit choice is quite important.
