Being built to add to my collection of Ed Heinemann designs. I bought the Yahu panel but didn't use it as it wouldn't work with the resin interior. The interior did fit OK but not great after a lot of guessing. I may be done trying to put aftermarket resin in 1/72 airplanes, it doesn't give me that great a feeling in this scale. The Hasegawa kit itself is pretty nice. If I hadn't recently built an Accurate Miniatures SBD I probably would have been happy at the start with the kit interior.

Looking good. I've built the -4. Thought it was a really good kit

I haven't dabbled in the 1/72nd scale stuff yet and I admire those who do. You're doing some good work on this one John. I've seen the 1/72 scale Testors sBD's but never a Hasegawa one. Will be following along with this build to see how this all pans out.

This one is in the display case. I found a new way to goof up, after I put the interior green on the canopy framing I primed the model with flat white, including the canopy. When I pulled the masking off the canopy there are places where the white peeks out. Idiot!
I did go back and paint the cowl guns after the pictures. The markings are of one of the two SBD's that peppered Saburo Sakai and sent him on his epic journey back to Rabaul. He flew between two of them mistaking them for F4F's.

Very nice finish John! What is the deal with the yellow gear door and wheel hub on one side?

Apparently it was an identification device, Carlos. The Starfighter decal set had many airplanes with one or both gear struts painted different colors. I hadn't seen that before.

Neither have I… I wonder if the squadron was using the old pre war section colors? Which VB squadron is this SBD from? IIRC, the USN had four carriers present to support the Guadalcanal landings.

Pretty quick build John. Turned out very nice. Makes me want to get back to my WWII naval aircraft builds.

Looks great jeaton01 ! Did you use the kit engine? It looks rather decent for a hasegawa 1/72 kit.

Excellent finish John! I have to admit I've not seen a strut from the Enterprise painted like that either. I just learned my new thing for the day!

You're kicking yourself too hard on that window frame masking John ( jeaton01). I love the Dauntless Dive Bomber anyway and then again to see a good build of one and this one is just that. Beautiful work buddy!!

Thanks, everyone. Yes, Chris, it is the kit engine. It is a nice kit, not one of Hasegawa's old 1/72 examples. The resin interior was not fun, I should have just kept it simple, though if you look close you may be able to see the resin twin mount in the back. There is no option in the kit for an open gunner's station.
Carlos, the decal instructions say it is from VB-6, the crew was Ens. Robert Shaw and AO2/c Harold Jones. 8 August 1942.

Good show! I dig the oddball gear/door!
I love this plane almost as much as some others, but have only done the AccuMini(48th) and basic Testors(72nd)...but I do have an amazing looking Flyhawk kit in the stash(72).
ADHD has me wanting to skip what's on the table and start it...along with EVERYTHING else!!!

Ha ha, Jeremy, I have the Testor's kit sitting on my desk next to me. Positively antediluvian. I was thinking I could slap it together to hang from the tail over my desk and next time my wife laments about the mess thereon I could point up and say it was just bombed. But you probably made a charming rendition of it. I haven't seen the Flyhawk kit.

I should add... The Flyhawk kit looks absolutely amazing! There's also 30+ options for airframes on the decals. Although, it B1 - B18, with a double white line on the tail...or B-1 - B-18, with a single white line on the tail.
