These are the other two of my 3 favorites based on how they look without knowing any of the history. I also do not know the significance of the different tops either. Im sure its based on production years or something like that. The P-51B built in CA and P-51C built in TX could have either of those canopies. The Malcolm Hood "Big Mac" was a British designed sliding canopy to increase visibility. The canopy on the Flying Scot was original factory hinged to the side

You can be pretty sure that any B or D was built in Inglewood, and any C or K was built in Dallas. What that means about what propeller or canopy the airplane might have depends on what got replaced in the field. Dorsal fins varied as well due to field mods and there were at least three versions of those, 4 if you count none. All Allison Mustangs came from Inglewood.

Been in and out of there several times. As airports go, LAX has the best ingress/egress of any airport I've been to.

The easiest way to tell a B from a C is the serial number. Use the link that Keavdog provided which gives all the serial numbers with block differences. Or ask me and I can help

So one of my new 72nd scale Eduard kits is going to be Happy Jacks Go Buggy from the 20th FG. In doing my research, why do so many decal/model companies get his markings wrong? Capt. Jack had one Mustang painted two different ways. MC*O was his early style marking bird. When he became deputy group commander his markings were changed to MC*I and also had the later style "keyboard" markings on the nose. So many companies get these mixed up. In today's world of internet research this is crazy.

I'm ready. I've got 4 cars on the bench - could use a wingy thingy. I only have 1 P-51 in the stash and two finished. I don't feel qualified to participate π
