This was given to me by Eric. Along with all of the photo etch. Guess he's trying to find my breaking point! I'm going to document this build like I did the other armor kit. Mainly to see what changes, where I can make improvements and what I did wrong. Still don't have all the "necessary" tools, but I will survive. Anyone have any information on the late version? I found a book online I've been going through, but not a whole lot. Where were they used, times of year? I'll stick with the AK Interactive Real colors for the tank and the Vallejo for the tools like the last armor build. Don't think all of the PE will be added, but I will add as much as I can.

StuGs were very successful for the Germans in WW2. The reason the StuG IV came about was due to a shortage of Mk III chassis as a result of strategic bombing. The main difference is the type of chassis: StuG III had torsion bar suspension while the Mk IV chassis had leaf spring. The late war StuG IVs were mainly issued to ant-tank companies in the eastern from in late war camo…Keep in mind that StuG were generally not used in panzer Divisions but rather used in the anti-tank companies of infantry Divisions or Subordinate to panzer Divisions in that role.:,

Anyone have any information on the late version? I found a book online I've been going through, but not a whole lot. Where were they used, times of year? The StuG IV could be found in Russia, Italy and Normandy, though the latter is too early for the "late" version. If they did appear in later stages of the war on the western front I can't tell for sure at the moment, as a lot of Jagdpanzer IV did appear. Funny side note: General Guderian strongly opposed the JgPz, as he found it an unnecessary over-complication and a waste of resources for something the StuG IV was perfectly capable of doing. The most distinctive features were the modified driver box, the round fire MG and the vertical exhaust pipes. But there are many other little features that came continuously in production every month. Change from four to three return rollers for example or re-location of tools and so on. What's in a general perception a "late" type started to appear roughly around August 1944, I believe. There is a well known set of factory pictures by Krupp that should be from that month, if I'm correct.
