Well I’m about 2/3rds of the way through this build. I’m building it as a member of the IPMS Reviewer Corps and the model was graciously donated by MRC for the review. As IPMS posts each part of the review I can post it and some additional pics here for you guys to see.

There's some great detail in this kit. I ended up starting with all the armament and ancillary parts. Mostly because i like the thought of getting things completed rather than partially done 😉 keeps the bench better organized when building something this big as well.
The hangar bay walls are built up in like 8 individual sections. Great for ease of assembly though I probably made it more complicated by clamping it all together at once to ensure it all was the same height. In the end it worked out because the flight deck fits inside this whole section perfectly post gluing 🍻 i’d build these one at a time right on the deck if i do this one again…which i might if 3D Wild launches their hangar bay detail and update set.
Here’s a few detailed shots to show how it’s coming along. I’m just doing light weathering as it is shown in 1945 before they starting doing updates to the island. I did some oil caning on this though i won’t try the approach i used again. I tried painting black and then going over it with the solid lines of the welds.even with thin layers of paint the weld lines came out looking reversed, i.e. recessed panel lines rather than weld beads proud of the surface.
I’ve started on the flight deck. Off for my 30th wedding anniversary so it’ll be a few weeks before the last installment.
