Hello friends,
This is the last build of the summer for the museum. I pick back up in fall. This one has an interesting story, just like the space shuttle. Col Arnie Franklin (Ret), is one of the Museum board members. He was the reason I was chosen to restore the Space Shuttle.
His career in the Air Force, spanned 30 years. He did two tours in Southeast Asia. His first tour was as a French speaking FAC in Cambodia. Later, due to losses over the ho Chi Minh Trail , he was stationed as a FAC at NKP. His Second tour was flying F111’s. He was the mission commander of Operation El Dorado Canyon in 1986. His call sign was “Remit 31”.
On July 4th, The museum will open the Operation El Dorado Canyon exhibit. An extremely talented modeler has already built the F111 that he flew on that mission. That Model will be a part of the display. There is not an OV-10 model in the museum collection, (yet). I’m building the plane that he flew The day that he got his distinguished flying cross.
