I have some “many brushes” that have seen better days and looking to rejuvenate them. Would submerging in a sonic vibrator get rid of the grime imbedded in the metal and maybe soften the bristles? They are not good for much otherwise.

Whenever I try this I always lose the point which makes them pretty much useless. I use old brushes for drybrushing and stippling, also to apply groundwork on dioramas. They ain't good for much else.
Perhaps there are others that have more talent at brush restoration than I tho

Pitch the old brushes. I spend way to much money on my brushes - but it's a joy to use them. I have an aged Windsor-Newton series 7 that I have to let go. Burial notice will be published.

If you decide to chuck them, remove the Ferrel and keep the handles. They come in handy for a lot of stuff.
