I always mask off and paint the ID stripes. I had trouble with them pretty often. The chipping looks pretty good for a really worn airplane, but I get that it wasn't exactly what you intended. On to the next one, this fits the bill for Frank being tired today!

Thanks John. The chipping this time seemed to come of in near round bits which doesn't seem natural. I'll find another cheap kit and try again before I do the nicer kits in my stash. Or maybe I'll go all right off the production line 🤣. To be honest I'm more comfortable in NMF than these crazy worn finishes.

Looks really good! Chipping seems to never go the way I want either

Looks good! What exactly would cause the chipping? debris in the air? bullets? all of the above?

Most of time we are our own worst critics when a build result doesn't quite match what we had in our minds eye. I think it's a great looking build sir!

Looks good! What exactly would cause the chipping? debris in the air? bullets? all of the above? James, for late war Japanese aircraft, that you'll see with a lot of chipping flaking, it's due to poor paint, no primer, lower standards to just get planes to the units. Most chipping, normal chipping, is due to repairs, debris, normal wear and tear.

I've certainly never attempted any chipping but they sure looks great! Always love a build of Japanese stuff. Awesome work!

Thanks all. The Frank was a real hotrod and a sleek looking plane.
