Oscar in New Guinea, 1/48 Ki-43

So here is my completed Otaki Arii 1/48 Ki-43 Hayabusa, first released in 1972. I added details into the cockpit, main wheels, wheel wells, and oil cooler, as well as replacing the single piece kit canopy with a vacuform canopy by Falcon. Paints are Tamiya lacquer and Gunze Aqueous. Decals are from Aeromaster for a Ki-43 II of the 77th Hiko Sentai, 2nd Chutai in Hollandia New Guinea, January-April 1944 flown by a Capt. Matsuo. Externally the kit is pretty nice, but all the areas that I mentioned above need help.

This is one of those builds that continue to prove that it's the modeler.......and not the kit that make all the difference in a good build like this one Carlos. Along with the extra detailing and weathering that you've put into this build, one would be remised if they didn't mention that totally awesome camo job that you've given this plane.  Excellent results in every way on this.

Great pics Stik. Figures look sharp and add great scale reference. Really turned out nice. I have the Hasegawa Oscar in the stash and may just try this camo. 😨

Thanks Lyle. I wouldn’t call this kit problematic when built as it
comes from the box. Its’ challenges were mostly self inflicted when I modified the wheel wells and cockpit… 🤨 At least in regards to any fit problems.

Thanks Brent! Yes, the Otaki Arii kits do build up nicely! Great stuff for those who have a tight modeling budget and enjoy doing a little improvising of their own to dress up a kit.
