Hi All, I've finished a 1/6 scale Australian Infantryman figure from the Vietnam war but I'm missing the sling from his SLR. I have no idea what I should be using to represent the sling? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

How wide would the sling be in 1/6 scale? Could you use some painted tape of some appropriate width? I truly have no idea I have never worked on anything like that.

Here I would use the foil cover from a cereal container. The pattern would be perfect webbing in scale and you can bend it to create seams and thicker edges. A bit of bent wire for buckles and connectors and you have a sling. Not sure if you have similar foil on packaging down there though. Here foil is often used on things like dips, sour creme, cereal, pudding or anything sealed in a plastic container.

I suggest masking tape, cut to size and it can be folded and tinted to color. Ples you have the advantage of self adhesive tabs to secure. Just a thought.

Another alternative in that scale would be duct tape. In 1/6th you are going to see the weave in the webbing of the sling so masking tape may look off a bit. Duct tape has a pattern that may show better. The only issue with using any tape though is that it may be hard to get natural sag since it won't hold shapes well.

Foil off of a wine bottle is really nice to work with for stuff like this.

Thanks gentlemen, some great ideas there. I'll pull this bloke back out of the cupboard and see if I can't get it across the finish line!

Dang, sorry Dean( dean48ws), for the late find. You can also use sheet pewter, from hobby stores. At 1/6th scale you'll want to show some thickness to the strap. If you need to make buckles, clips, etc, copper wire flattened or other light metal works great, too.
