I'm going to make this one in the Markings of Bud Mahurin's Spirit of Atlantic City, one of the kit options. It's the first Tamiya P-47 I've worked on and it is going pretty well. Not entirely happy with the instrument panel but it's not so bad, I used the kit decal for it. Eduard seat belts.

Excellent start!! I always enjoy a P-47 build and have heard pretty good things about the Tamiya version. Those Eduard belts are a really nice addition!

I love the both of the Tamiya Jug kits...if they ever upscale the 1/48 and 1/72 kits to 1/32, I can imagine they'd sell a few. Hahaha. Looks good so far to me!

That instrument panel looks worse every time I look at that picture. Cameras are a modeler's ego's worst enemy! The windscreen has a different fit than usual on this model, it fits down in the fuselage, not on top so I had to take care to get it in correctly, and the slightest bit of trimming was needed on the fuselage right at the front of the V shaped opening. No gaps anywhere so far.

Nice n' smooth in the build up process.

Yup, newer Tamiya at least. I built a Lancaster from an early issue kit and it was not as nice, though still good. I replaced the engines with resin as that was a weak point. I put an Alclad dull aluminum undercoat on and later topped that with Alclad Gloss clear, which I find gives me a good chipping base so I can use toothpicks and dental tools without fear of going through to the plastic. The Lanc with a Tamiya Mk I Spitfire, another lovely to build kit.

Marvelous work so far John. The Tamiya P-47 kit is always a great choice. I consider them to still be some of the nicest kits on the market. An absolute joy to build.

Trying to make it look a little well used, and finding that's about the same as being a little bit pregnant, Looks ugly at this point and it probably always will until it is in some sort of scene. Clearcoat is next, then the decals.

Decals finished up today. Almost as many stencils as a jet fighter and nearly invisible on the OD. Tamiya Extra Thin stopped a little silvering so far, we'll see how it is after a day of drying.

Thanks, Brent. I still see one decal trying to silver but the finished pictures are taken. The last two photos are with a Hasegawa D-25, the Pro Modeler P-47N, and an XP-72 from a Koster Monogram conversion. That turned out fantastic !!! Love the color modulation and weathering that you put into this one buddy. BTW.......if there's a silvered decal on there I can't find it. Splendid work John.
