USS Midway CV-41 Trumpeter 1/350

Here is my out of the box USS Midway! The completed model is a great showpiece. Overall, I spent 3 months building the kit. I spent a couple hours in the evenings during the week and a couple devoted Saturdays and Sundays on assembly and painting. The fit and lack of a need for putty make the build enjoyable. You’ll have the typical time with photoetch, take your time and look for as many references as possible to complete it. These fine details really add to the finished look of Trumpeter’s USS Midway CV-41 model. The PE on the island is a real bear. I'd have to do this a 3rd time to really make it look nice. That's probably the only part I'd like to improve on. The flight deck is my favorite part. It just seems to look the part of an aircraft carrier from WW2, even though she was late to the party   


I have an idea for adding signal flags like I've seen in some pictures, where they drape from the main mast to the bow and stern. I posted up a question on model warships and one of the guys added a link to the standard! Here's an excerpt...

pennants, arranged in the order prescribed herein, shall be displayed. The

rainbow shall reach from the foot of the jackstaff to the mastheads and thence to

the foot of the flagstaff.

I have yet to build an aircraft carrier Chris but builds like this one spur me on to the idea of taking on at some point. Great work on this beauty from the aircraft to the PE compliments and on to the painting of this beauty. Some very good work went into this build and it shows.

I like the oil canned effect you added. The flight deck looks outstanding as well. Wonderful job on this!

   You make even an OOB build look spectacular Chris, knowing how talented you are in must have been a " challenge" to not stray into AMS, LOL. That's going to the Nats right?

Sure is! I’m working on a box with foam in it for transport. That really fine PE on top of the mast is going to be tough to keep intact me thinks 🤪

What a great build!! I've never built any ships at all but I sure do love looking at them. Wonderful work.
