For lack of a better place for this, I figure may as well throw it in here! I built a display box so I can at least look at some trains all the time, rather than just at Christmas when they go around the tree. The shelved one is for the trains...the other, well my plan for that wasn't likable...it'll make a showing at a later date. The bottom is "shelved" and the top is a scene. Insulation foam-board for the base. I carved it into "rock", roughed up with a wire brush and toned the roughness down with a heat gun. Craft paint was used for the rock, and various Woodland Scenics products for vegetation. The bridges were built with balsa sticks. Trains!!! I do have a frame (just need to get glass for it) to cover it. I've had this done for a little while now...just finally got a little free time to show it!

And.................Jeremy's done it once AGAIN!! Dude.....are there no limits to what you'll do in modeling? I've got a pretty good appreciation for locomotives/ trains and these are some good examples of good modeling. Great idea on the display case and again with the display layout.

Beautiful work but having been to Amsterdam the title confused me at first.

Great work. Looks like a really fun project. What foam do you use for the mountains?

Not only have you come out with a brilliant idea, but you masterfully executed this in such a magnificent way! Wow! My mind is trying to think of a way to do something like this to display some of my newest armor before it goes in the tubs with everything else.

What foam do you use for the mountains? I'm sure there's a technical term for the foam...but...?? It's by "Pink Panther". I had the better part of a 4x8 sheet (1.5" thick) left over from a job. I used the same stuff on my little 2x4 N-scale layout

WOW, beautiful work there!! Even the bare wood looks great. You’ve got skills 👍 I never thought about using the heat gun to smooth out the foam. Gonna use that in the future for sure 🍻

Gonna use that in the future for sure 🍻 The heat gun "trick" was a bit of a happy accident. After the carving and roughing up with a wire brush, the texture was a bit "fuzzy" and not rock-like at all. Thought about spraying with a solvent based paint, but control is pretty limited...so I gave the gun a whirl and satisfied with the results...especially for a first attempt.
