Completed - Academy 1/150 Cutty Sark

My Cutty Sark is complete!! 28 days of absolutely no yard work, housework, honey-do projects, or anything not hygiene related  

I weathered the ship as if she was at sea so I didn't want a ton of gloss on her.

99.999% out of the box. I had to add some bristles from a paintbrush to simulate the horse tail the figurehead is carrying. her name is "Nannie", she's a witch from a poem, and I learned "Cutty Sark" is the Scottish name for a short summer dress like the one she is wearing.











This is my favorite, how the plastic sails turned out. I love the wood grain but this turned out way better than I hoped.




I noticed when I took the 1st round of pics that I didn't put the stay in the right place so nowhere to put the Union Jack! You'll see it corrected in the other pics.

I said something similar 10 years ago when my son got the kit for me...so I expect to see a sailing ship from you in another decade!!

For sure! I worked 1 mast a night. Even then i ended up doing just the main sails on a mast and then coming back to do the ones on the outsides. They were super time consuming and you had to concentrate so hard to make sure you didn’t “cross the streams” essentially 🤪

Fantastic work! I'm sure adding the sails wasn't fun but they really add a ton to the overall look of the ship. I still am amazed you built this beauty as fast as you did.

My Cutty Sark brought home a Silver in the basic kit build category at IPMS Nationals this week! She really showed well. Quite a few wooden ship models as well as “enhanced” plastic ones. I’m not ready for the full on sailing ship category yet 🍻

Wow congratulations.  Well deserved and that is an award to really be proud of.  The nationals are the toughest competition in my opinion.
