This is awesome!! What a cool build. Some great techniques at work here too for the time. I love the graphics and 80s vibe.

I was a Pro Street junkie back in the 80's. Have my share of kits for this.

I built this around 1988. The graphics were pulled from an issue of Hot Rod Magazine. This kit was a rebuild of the first release of the Streaker Vette. The candy red came off and monochromatic white with pink laser graphics went on. I think the graphics were my first try at an airbrush. I still use the same single action Paashe today. Go figure. The rear chassis and tubs were scratch built. The really neat trick was creating pro street rear tires by rolling a MPC slick over metal screen laid on a hot iron. Good Times! I've built my fair share of pro street cars/ trucks and have always loved the look. I like what you did here with the stripes and the fading of them as it gives the car a clean look. The bit about rolling the tires on an MPC slick over a metal screen is ingenious!! BTW.....I still use single action airbrushes as well. I've tried my hand at the double action brushes and just can't get the feel for them. Good lookin' car and it's really cool that you still have this car 36 years later. Thank you for sharing this Scott.

For a first time using an airbrush you achieved a top notch paint job!

Gotta tell ya - I'd be happy if I my builds came out like that today! Nails the pro-street look and screams 80s. Love watching these cars run.

Love the paint treatment here. Very nicely done. Yeah, I was in the Navy in the 80's so didn't have a chance to really experience the Pro street movement except through Car Craft Magazine. Nicely Done Scott!!!

Kyle, TJ, Leon, Hand, NYRR, and Keav, I'm glad you like it! The 80s had so many great cars. Joe, I am the same way. Got a double action airbrush. Just couldn't put down the ol' single action. Wait until you learn about another builder who is also the same way in AMM issue #2.
I have one more 80s PS car that I'll post when I get back from covering the Syracuse Mini Nationals. Hopefully, I'll see some of you there.
