As I have zero interest in most motorsports that run open wheels but had plans to build the Go Kart as a gift I figured it was my one opportunity to jump in the GB. The kit is a repop of the old kart that came in many (sort of odd choices) 1962 issued kits. Couldn't find pictures but apparently some of the kart parts in those old kits were molded on the sprues with the car parts so you had to get all 5 kits to build the whole cart! The 1963 F-100 kit had all the parts for the kit but they were still molded on the same sprues as the truck parts. The 2019 issue of the '60 Chevy truck was the first time that they pulled all the parts together on their own sprues. This means that even though the same parts they are actually a new mold so the sprues are very crisp and clean. Far far too many parts in chrome so most of these will get stripped. The basic chassis parts are very nice. Instructions are exactly the same as back in '62 when you had to gather the parts from the 5 kits. Have have some decent pictures of a similar kart that I will be using to add all the wires, cables and fuel lines. silodrome.com/twin-engine-margay-concept-go-kart/

And to think my poor father had to race against the twins with his sad little Mcculoch powered homemade kart. That’s where the nitro in the fuel came in…🤣🤣 Thanks for jumping in here Tony, I’m looking forward to this one.

Will be following for sure, as back in the 1970's when I was still single, I drove a Stock Heavy Enduro Kart in the North East div. After 3 years I finally won that championship, then retired and got married the following February. Turns out I should have just moved up in class and passed up getting married to wife #1
Some how I missed Kyles mention of a fuel additive. Back in my racing days we were allowed up to 10% fuel additive, and lets just say that mine was customed mixed by my best friend who worked at a local chemical company.

Most parts stripped of chrome. My usual beach soak didn't touch it so I went out and picked up some Purple Power. Took it off in 5 minutes. Wheels left in chrome but will be toned down with a bit of Citadel Nulin (black). Couple of parts base coated in Testers silver Some parts will be left in chrome but again will get toned down since I HATE model kit chrome as is since it looks so unreal.

Looks good so far, Tcoat! I'll be watching as I have the same kit and have built the truck but have never built the Go-kart. Maybe I'll give it a try after watching yours come together.

Tcoat, I've always used Oven cleaner but it's just to toxic to use. I keep on hearing about the Purple stuff. Exactly what is it so that I can go to the store and buy the right product.
Those tires and wheels not only look darn good, they look exactly like the ones I had on my enduro Kart a million years ago.

Been using the Super Clean to strip some chrome parts and the stuff is fantastic. As quick as Oven Cleaner, no smell, and I just dump the oz or two I use down the sink with running water.

Bring A Trailer is a great resource for car detail photos. It’s just a struggle to keep from bidding on every 1st gen RX-7 or SW-20 MR2 that goes up for auction. Ben
