Despite the decal issues that you had during the build up of this car, it still turned out to be a good lookin' build Ben. One can tell that you put a lot of lovin' into this project and you definitely get an A for effort on this.

Ben,
Finally the Jag is done and in the books. From the 1st time I saw you build blog to now, your build has been absolutely amazing. You did an outstanding job as the paint looks great, and you got those decals to lay down and look as they should.

Really wonderful work Ben!! I am no fan of Hasegawa’s decals myself. You did an awesome job with them. I really love the look of the Silk Cut Jags. Great looking cars.

I'd often wondered why Tamiya of all companies hasn't released any of the versions of this car. I would have bought all of them not just the Long tail versions of the Silk Cut and Castrol cars. I do kind of understand why they did the Mazda 787b but it was a one time winner with a great paint scheme, and didn't sell all that well.

For Hasegawa decals I think you applied them masterfully. The build in itself looks fantastic! If your a Top Gear or Grand Tour fan you can hear this whenever you see a Jaguar

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! These Hasegawa Group C kits are a lot of fun when you have good aftermarket decals to put on them. I especially like them because I prefer curbside builds.
Joel, you mentioned the 787b; that's my next race car project. I've been looking for the Tamiya kit at a decent price for years and finally got one last month. I got to see and hear one run at the Mitty at Road Atlanta a few years ago. That four rotor at full tilt had the perfect pitch and volume that went way past the threshold of pain, even with ear plugs. It was glorious!

Ben, I'm already getting in line for your epic build of the 787b. I have a Hasegawa jag in my stash that I bought for cheap as an open kit, so I don't even know if all the parts are there, and somewhere I have the Indy Cal Castrol decals for it. Just gotta force myself to actually check out the kit for all the parts. With your Silk Cut build, I can skip a lot of my usual updates, and focus on the build.
Already I'm doing what I swore I'd stop, and that's build lists. I never follow them so finally I realized that there's no point to them other then giving me a reason to go through my smallish stash as at my age the old memory isn't what it use to be. BTW, this winter I'm going to actually attempt to build the 1/24 scale Accurate Miniature's McLaren M8B, my all time favorite Can Am car.
Oh, and how's the Puppy am Mom doing? joel

Joel,
I look forward seeing what you do with your Jag and McLaren!
I try not to do build lists, either. I usually just stand in the closet where I keep my stash and grab whatever kit catches my eye. Of course sometimes I’ll buy a kit and clear the bench for it. The Mazda is one of those and I think the upcoming Clear Prop 1/48 F-86A is going to be another.
Pup is doing great. I can’t believe she’ll already be two in November. Time has really flown lately!

Ben to be perfectly honest about the McLaren, I've attempted to build it and failed. But I'm going to give it my best shot.
The Pup is going to be 2 come Nov. Time sure flies. As for Nov I'll turn 77 . Now talk about depressing.

Kyle, Love to do a duel build. One will wear the #4 of Bruce McLaren, and the other the #5 of Denny Hulme, who I really thought was the faster of the two. But I loved the Bruce & Denny show. You can see that as soon as I could find my M8B Avatar pic, I switched from Gurney's AAR F1 Spa winning car.
No matter how I tried I couldn't get the one engine/chassis brace weaved through the exhaust. The instructions even call it out as the hardest part of the build. A lot of guys just skipped it as it was really hard to see, while others just left them off as they were doing a closed engine compartment build. You really can't do it both opened and closed due to fitment issues of the lower chassis. Plus all those vinyl hoses and fittings are a nightmare to clean up. To bad those molds don't exist, or are buried somewhere.

If you want to get an idea of what it sounds like, go to YouTube and pull up one of the 787b fly-by videos, turn your volume up to 11, and then run it through a stack of concert speakers while you stand six feet in front of them. That will almost get you to the decibel level of the real car. Ben
