Ah Heller. At least they’re consistent. Lol. Looking forward to watching this one.

Ah Heller. At least they’re consistent. Lol. Looking forward to watching this one. I was going to give Heller the benefit of the doubt thinking these were old molds from the 60's or so but a quick look up says the late 90's soooo... Still the only game in town for a decent scale to complete this extremely cool project so worth the extra effort.

Quiz time! Which one of these looks better than the other? Study them before you look at the description below them 🤔 On the left is the raw plastic Middle is one where i scraped the edges of all the crossbars to remove the hairline plastic seam lines Right is the same as middle but i rubbed each crossbar with thin cement to remove any plastic hairs left Here’s what it looks like from an angle comparing the left and right pieces from the above pics. I think here you can really see the draft angle from the mold and the seam lines. Trying to figure out if it’s worthwhile to spend time on this. I really feel the trimmed ones look better due to being thinner. Still debating the effort vs the look. If you guys can’t see a differthen i’m not bothering 🤣

I think that the time and effort you spent in cleaning these up was well worth it Chris. Just by themselves it may not appear that it was worth it to you but all of this little stuff will add up in the end result bud.

Definitely think your cleanup efforts are paying off. The thinned ones have a much nicer look. Great job.

Your thinned parts look extra good; I'd say keep at it. It may be dull and uninspiring work, but in the end the difference will show in a massive way.

Ok! Time for a new #11 blade. It’s off to work i go 👍 I got a few small things done this afternoon… Since i know 2whl has one in the stash i’ll post up some details as i go. To get the corners to mesh perfectly sand back the rear edge. These ended up fitting perfect on all 4 corners a small layout check those alignment lugs aren’t even used. Never touch the eiffel tower legs. Away they go with my handy dandy 3mm chisel… and sanded down to 1000 grit.

This is coming along great! It may have been a pain to do but I agree making the parts thinner took away the "chunky" look to them.

Sooo, if it was period correct then it should be browner. Which was the way i started out. i mixed up the darker coat 1st but didn’t like the way it looked. The picture is closer to the yellow orange of the past decade 1899-1906. And that’s the way I ended up doing my 1st test coats. Hmmmm, what do you think?

I personally like the lighter better even if not period accurate. Maybe the light with a nice dark brown wash to make the details pop and give variation?

I think the goal should be to recreate the painting and I think your colors are spot on.

Another vote for the lighter color to recreate the painting.
