Trying a Model Master AirBrush. I needed something that could put down more paint than my Iwata for my 50" Battlestar Galactica build, and also wanted something that wouldn’t cramp my finger. Thought about a Grex, but decided to try this Master Airbrush. I like the air flow adjustment is separate from the paint trigger. I also like the paint cups are interchangable. I'm hoping this will work well for primer and base coat. Of course I could use it only to find out I hate it.

Jack, believe it or not, I’ve been doing all my paint with a Master airbrush. If you keep them clean, like right after done spraying, they work pretty well. Yes, I want an Iwata in the worst way, but funds won’t allow it. I think you might be surprised. Good luck on your journey.

I figured 60 bucks wouldn't break me if I didn't like it. And I've really needed something that could lay down some paint. I love my Iwata...but it just isn't practical for these larger builds. I also love to mix up colors, so the rattle can for the Galactica is out too.

Nice. You will like it. The price and all the extras you get is nice as well. My first AB was a Master and I'm still using it. The only thing I wish, is the paint cup was smaller and removable.

Yeah I really like I can use different paint cup sizes. It also came with .3, .5 & .8 needles.

I love my GHAD-68 and Paasche model H so much I hardly touch my Iwata now haha. Use it for only very fine detail stuff which I probably don't even need to switch for but do.

Agreed. My GHAD-68 gets a workout so I’ll second that. I use it for nearly everything. Can’t complain about it one bit

I'm impressed that Gaahleri came with needle lube at that price.

They feel really nice for the price and I love how well it atomizes paint. No mac valve on the 68 though. But I really like the trigger. Comfortable for me for long sessions.

I have a Paasche H and an Iwata. The Iwata has been sitting on its cradle for so long, I think it's starting to grow roots. That Paasche is so much easier to use and clean, it's been my go-to airbrush for everything. Can't go wrong with the good ol' H.

I have that one too and just use the 68 more only due to preferring the pistol trigger over the top trigger style. I think you’ll like it.

Agreed. My GHAD-68 gets a workout so I’ll second that. I use it for nearly everything. Can’t complain about it one bit And I agree with you! 👍 I bought one several months ago and really fell in love with it. It is so easy to use and quick to clean as well. I have been using a Paasche H since 1988 and have painted all my models with that AB, but the next one built will get painted with the GHAD 68. One caveat, I used it to spray clear flat, in this case it was Model Master acrylic, over the decals on my 109 and the flat was not very matte; instead, it was a definite satin or even glossier. I had never had trouble from that MM acrylic before and a bit of online sleuthing revealed that the smaller needle on the Gaahleri might've rendered the clear that way. Sure enough, when I switched back to the Paasche, the clear looked much flatter. Go figure. Perhaps it was just a fluke but something to be aware of.

That's interesting. What needle - the .3? Not sure why it would make flat clear appear gloss.

Yes, it was interesting, and surprising to me. It was the needle that came installed; yes, I believe that's the .3 as I haven't used the other needle yet.

Interesting. I rarely spray flat clear…(not dabbling as much on the military side) so I generally just pick up a can or two to have around. This is good to know though. I typically have the 0.5 loaded into my 68. For smaller stuff I just swap to my 0.3 GSI Creos Procon boy which I also truly love. Thanks again for that info Gary!

Hey guys, Just an update on the Gaahleri Ghad - 39 I picked up. Tested some spray patterns with water and then shot some varnish on my 1/6 scale Adama head. The spray pattern with the .3 needle was pretty good, and the trigger felt decent for a 40$ brush. I really like the removable cups. It's pretty nicely balanced and reminds me of my Iwata in terms of balance. Also I like that the needle nozzle is fluted and free floating - very different from any other AB I've used - and is easy to pull off without taking the brush apart. I would think this would make cleaning a clog very quick and painless. Haven't had time to touch the Master AB yet, but I imagine that will come sooner than later. J I bought this Gaahleri brand because of good reviews. Fantastic so far. $50 range

I hope to get to use it on larger projects where hand strain is a thing.

I really love the free floating nozzles. Makes deep cleaning a breeze. Now I’m not into deep cleaning much. I don’t break down my airbrushes unless there’s an issue but that nozzle is a great design. It atomized really well too.

It atomized really well too. I was expecting an Iwata clone..based on my experience with Chinese knock offs I usually will avoid. But I have to say this AB seems like an original and well designed brush. I plan on using it mainly for primer right now.

Just finished shooting the cheapest Dollar Store "Crafters Basic Acrylic" orange through the Gaahlri. Distilled with DW and shot 8 psi about .5 inches away from the surface. .3 needle. I figured if any paint was gonna clog - this cheap stuff would do it. Shot fine even without straining the paint or anything. I'd say pretty impressive. The AB dissembles and cleans very easy.
