Apologies for calling you out so to speak however I have a question about traffic stops. Like most arm chair civilian LEOs,( guys like me with absolutely no experience but watch all the shows), I was watchin OP Nation on Reelz last night, during initiation of a traffic stop the officer exited his vehicle, move towards the suspect vehicle, as he closed to make cintact he touched the drivers side tail light/ quarter panel area. It was simply a 3 fingered touch and he priceeded with the stop. My question after all that is why? Are there infrared stickers on his finger tios? Is itva way for tracking via CSI if the vehicle is abandoned somewhere? Surely it isn't simply to " feel" if the vehicle is running or going to move. Thank you in advance if you choose to answer this stikpusher. SIDEBAR will Andy start stocking 1/16 towed artilery/AA guns?

I’ve been told that it is to leave fingerprints on the vehicle to prove he was there at the car should anything happen.

Thank you in advance if you choose to answer this stikpusher . SIDEBAR will Andy start stocking 1/16 towed artilery/AA guns? Heya Perry, I edited your post to make sure that Carlos would see it. You'll see how the word stickpusher is called out in red. I did this by clicking on the icon in the toolbar above the text area. From there you simply type in any given members name and it will appear in a drop down box either by itself or in a list of similar names that start with the letters you're typing in. Once you select which member to use it will appear in the post in either a highlighted red (for staff) or highlighted blue (for members) and will call them out like this. armornutii

Love that show !!! OPL
Love the way so many people talk themselves into being arrested, they just can't keep their mouths shut.
My only beef is that too many officers try to be friends, joke around, and even flirt with folks they pull over.Just be professional, repectful, and polite. Not nasty or superior, just professional.

In all honesty I can’t say why to touch the quarter panel. I was taught to feel at the trunk lid to see if it’s loose and anyone may be popping up to ambush you from that angle. And that’s only on certain types of stops. And that’s not the quarter panel. Perhaps it is to feel if there is someone alive and kicking in The trunk who wants out?

Lol, in our line of work we always checked that the trunk was down, and always, always keep the doors closed, ya never know.

Oh yes, on the 1/16 artillery question, Andy said no. They are sticking to vehicles and primarily WWII. The new 1/16 M113 post WWII kit they have gone for. Depending upon the success of that kit, we will see if more postwar 1/16 stuff comes out from Andy’s.

Just saw this post. Have no clue why he was touching the quarter panel. I was thought to check if the trunk lid was locked, making sure no bad guy would cap me from behind. Also to watch for movement inside the car prior to and during the traffic stop. Also to stand a tad behind the driver so he had to turn to talk to me, giving me the edge if he drew on me. I would also change my mo and approach from the passenger side to change things now and then. Traffic stops and domestics are the most dangerous encounters for cops.
