Edit: 11.10.24 - Final Pics in my last postHi all, Started this last week. Figured it was doable without my airbrush. First time using Woodland Scenics products and Sculptamold but so far it was a pretty decent experience. Initial build Made some small modifications. Didn't want to do too much damage as I am limited in my supplies for now. Figured the struts would be overextended on such a fall and would have damage. Base is a picture frame with added ABS bottom. The riser is so that I can bury one of the knees a bit Initial layer of Sculptamold. Stuff is pretty good to work with so far. Took a while to dry inside so I let it bake in the sun today as it was 91 out. Tried Woodland Scenics rock molds and light hydrocal. First run was a bust but got the hang of the proper mix the 2nd time Second layer of Sculptamold. To get the impression I laid a bunch down under the model and then put cling wrap over it and smooshed it into the medium. I did it in sections as the working time is like 10 mins. I added the Woodland Scenics outcroppings and feathered them in to give some rocky terrain that will pop out of the snow. That's all for now. Thanks for looking!

Made some more progress this weekend. I was a dum-dum and forgot to put the guns and head shell on the first time, so the impression was too shallow and there was no relief for the guns. Had to break out the Dremel to make a pit that I could refill and make an impression. I do have to say that Sculptamold is pretty tough. Nice stuff. I also primed, based coated, and gloss coated the model. I ended up using Light Ghost Gray Tamiya Spray.

Agreed. That’s looking great. Nice job creating some clearances for the guns and whatnot.

Perfection. Are you going to wrap cables around the legs?

Perfection. Are you going to wrap cables around the legs? Thanks! Not sure yet. Was thinking about that or even having it laying on the ground as if the tension was released from falling. I still have a long way to go before that. The base is just sculptamold, though I do like how it does look like a reasonable snow facsimile. If all goes well, I will get some ground laid down this week and next weekend I can start weathering the model.

This is pure genius how you're putting this all together Tony and I'm really looking forward to seeing what the next steps are. Cables would be cool but already know you'll be doing this some good justice no matter what you choose to do. Continuing to watch the magic unfold.........................

Thanks all!
Hopefully it’s still in tact when I get home. I put the base outside this am to dry out in the sun and forgot to bring it back inside lol. Weather this morning said no rain but it changed about an hour ago and I wont be home for a while. Oh well, plenty of extra material to do it over if it comes to that.

Note to self: If you're going to weather with oils and mineral spirits on Bandai plastic... make sure you get good primer or clear coverage on the previous layers because they are NOT friends. Had some feet pads fall off because it got brittle. Nothing I can't overcome, but I wish I knew that ahead of time.

I've made mistakes like that as well and like you......it's very frustrating but not something that cannot be overcome with a modeler of your skillset. Looking forward to the recovery efforts.

Odorless turpenoid. I have also just started using Zippo lighter fluid. It evaporates very quick and doesn't seem to get into the plastic. Still trying it out though. Literally just used it the first time on a Bandai kit yesterday. But I've read tons of good things about it.
