Dean, sorry for the delayed reply, my bad. You have the basics covered quite well, you just need to work shadows and highlights in a subtle manner and both of these will pop even more. Chest hair, hands, all look great from these pics, so you've definitely got the jist of it. Darker flesh tones are dealt with in a similar fashion as Caucasian except shadowing, etc. The tones are different and can sometimes mess with your head, but it still happens to me, lol. There are quite a few vids to view on YT that will be much quicker than me trying to explain it here. Keep at it. That Verlinden head I've done a few times, so I can guide you as you progress. If you've got time, review some of the vid links and study the processes and play around and have fun. If this becomes grueling, you'll quit, so "play" with it and "let" it happen. Remember, once you understand how oils blend it becomes a natural action and sometimes you won't even think about it, it becomes muscle memory, so to speak. Remember, I only use acrylics for base tones and eyes, and some gear, the rest is oils over an acrylic base. Matching proper colors and tones is a learning experience, so don't get hung up on that, it'll come to you as you learn. Hang tough, Dean, you're doing well! P.S. Dean, a challenge if you're up for it? Watch Daria's vid on the eyes and do exactly as you see on that Verlinden head, just like I did on the head shown above in this thread. I'm betting you'll get the idea pretty quick and feel much more comfortable about messing with the oils. This thread is awesome! I couldn't agree with your first post any more if I wanted to, Ski. I've always had trouble trying to articulate this subject. You said it brilliantly! Awesome, Mike. It's really just a matter of wanting to, then making it happen and putting in the time.
