Rommel's Rod

[Crown Rn7]

This is a flash back to my youth , Rommel's Rod by Monogram lol.. I removed all of the chrome with brake fluid and painted with Tamiya Desert Yellow XF-59 over brown Pannel shading.
I am trying to get the hang of posting different subjects and aligning the pics.

I think it’s the weathering and wear & tear that puts a whimsical smile on my face. This is first class stuff with this kit Nick. Great job in bringing not only the best out in this model but the humor as well.

Pie wagon next!! I’ll be trying to scoop up one of those when Atlantis runs it. Would’ve been a lot cooler if Revell Germany had let the badman tooling go instead of running it under the new monogram brand with generic decals.

Even if they had let the tooling go Atlantis would have to change up the decals and copyrighted name. They have not issued any of the Tom Daniel kits under the original name as they own the molds but not the copyright for the decals designs or the Tom Daniel name. They have got around saying Tom Daniel on the box by using his son to design the new decals in a manner that is close but still different enough to avoid legal action.

There is a picture of alleged Atlantis Pie Wagon kit popping up but all it is an old style Monogram box with Atlantis Photoshoped in. It is not official from what I can see.


A posted preliminary picture from Atlantis shows it will actually be called "Pie Haulin' Rod" and although the  decals are covered odds are it will be something similar yet different. 

All in all these changes are a small price to pay to get these kits back on the market.

Yes. No doubt we’d have had something like “Not Goodman” or “Badguy” 🤦🏻‍♂️😂. I know they have to duck around the licensing but I certainly agree. Very cool to have these back on the market.

Very likely that even Revell Germany does not hold the copyright for Tome Daniel since the kit was released as Badman in 2012 but then in 2022 the name and signature are dropped.

 




Now... even as far back as '75 there were versions that dropped the Daniel reference so who knows?

Add me to the list of paint job fans here. Great shading, I'd like to learn how to do that someday. You did a great job on the Rod.

John and Leon both mentioned liking Tom Daniel kits, and so do I. A couple of years ago I ordered a few golden oldie kits from his website and got a very nice surprise, a note from Tom in the box. I guess now I know how autograph hounds must feel, that note makes me happy.

Love the look you achieved with this one. Its just stunning. I concur on the copywriting as well... JoHon did that too! EG: Gene Snows Rambunctious Challenger funny car, became Eugene Whites Ram Rod. It will be interesting to see how the modelling world interprets these classics now with builds that mimic the real world colors/techniques and concepts and weathering as displayed here...
