Eduard B-17F 1/48 “The Bloody Hundredth”

I was fortune enough to snag this kit from my local hobby shop after I missed out on the preorder.

Since purchasing the kit, I was surprisingly contacted by Eduard about doing a collaboration for this build. They asked for a list of parts/accessories I would like to include in the build. At first I had only sent them a few things, but they responded and asked me to send a longer list with any and all things I would want. To my surprise, they sent me every single accessory I mentioned. 

In exchange for the parts, I need to supply Eduard with photographs of the build along the way. 

When looking back at where I started in building models, I never knew I would eventually reach this level. I am beyond words and feel extremely proud and honored.

This will be an epic build! I'm really happy for you to have this opportunity! I'll be following along for sure. When I saw this kit come out I wanted to do it with the same aftermarket pe and resin that you have pictured. I built a Monogram "Visible" B-17 for a museum years ago that I used the Eduard Big Ed set with and more.

This is a great kit with endless possibilities being an HK kit from the start and then with Eduards "goodies" right in the box. It's quite an honor for a modeling manufacturer to reach out to you in collaboration on this build up. When it's all said and done, it is you that possesses the skillset to make this one into a true showpiece and the folks at Eduard know it. I will be bookmarking this thread and learning along the way as I have TWO of these in the stash now.

The Hk kit itself seems very nice. The wings attach in a pretty ingenious way - they sorta slide and lock into place not requiring glue. When I first opened the kit to look at it a few days ago, I was pretty satisfied with the quality of the plastic.

Yep! Luckily most of the PE is interior, and should be relatively easy to add without much modification. 

The most challenging aftermarket item will be the flaps.

I have officially started the B-17. Friday night I got most of the engine paint work done and assembled them all last night. Overall I am satisfied with how the engines turned out. 

One bit of change I made based on my personal preference was to change the color of the spark plug wires to yellow. Eduard recommended silver. Upon reviewing tons of reference photos, I discovered they were often black, grey, orange, and silver. I’m sure there is a possibility that one example did exist with yellow wires, especially with how mass produced these aircraft were.

  I like the weathering that you're putting into these engines already. That was a good call on the yellow ignition wires IMO Keith as it sure helped to bring that part of the detail out. I noticed that about the wings locking into place when I looked at my kit and thought that was pretty ingenious on HK's part. I'll be locked into this build and feel free to share the details on this build as I'll be taking notes.

Hell yeah! I almost got that kit at IPMS Nats but I already have the HK kit. You definitely have my attention too and great work on the engines!

Wonderful start! I like the yellow ignition wires they make the detail stand out better once in the cowling. I agree with Joe the weathered look is fantastic!

  The B-17, my nemesis kit, started many finished few....this one has my weary eye. Would be cool to just sniff the fresh plastic if nothing else.

Would love to build this but at $1166.00 Canadian I think it may be a tad out of reach! I will have to live vicariously through this build.
